Paradise Area Trail Report – Paradise Area Night Riders – 11/13

November 13, 2019

Thought I would jump on here for a hot second cause I know you crazy sled heads are trolling the internet for snow reports LOL.

Right now at my place it is 25 degrees and snowing sideways with a 25-30 mph wind howling right off the Bay! We have about 3 feet…..yes 3 feet….of snow on the ground! A tad early for this much snow in my book…sorry sled heads LOL. The weather guessers are calling for it to warm up to the upper 30`s and lower 40`s for next week though.

I do want to remind you that the trails don`t officially open up till Dec. 1st. You cannot ride on state land trails till then. This means like the trail to the Falls or any gated off trail. You can ride public land trails, but during the firearms deer season you can only ride between 11am-2pm or after dark….this is the LAW!

Another thing I want you to be aware of if you decide to come UP is the water on the trails below the snow. There is a TON of it!!!! We had a real wet fall and we ran across water holes in spots we have never had water before when we were out brushing this fall. So don`t come crying to me if you get yourself stuck in a huge puddle….er lake.

We cannot get our groomers out till the 1st. My best advise is to chill until we can get out and start freezing things in. It may take us a little longer to do that cause of all the water and it all depends what Mother Nature throws at us. I will throw the green flag UP when we think its safe.

Till then…….keep thinking snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Groomer Chris

December 13, 2019

27 degrees this morning and cloudy. The last couple of days has been good.....snowy and cold, picked up close to a foot of snow.

I`ve seen a few comments on why haven`t you done this.....why haven`t you gone here. I want you all to remember, we are volunteers, we all have jobs or businesses to run also, we do this on our "spare" time!!! PLUS only having a half dozen ppl. to help. That beening said, here`s the plan.........

Tomorrow we are runnin to Pine Stump on trail #8. We figure its gonna be a 12-16 hr. day what with all the trees down and such. It is a high ground trail so we don`t expect a lot of water problems. We will take 2 groomers there and with the 3rd groomer we are gonna head out on the Point trails #452 and #453. We know there are a lot of trees down on this trail also, plus a lot of water. Then next Tuesday we are planning on heading south on trail #8 and you all know about the swamp south of town!!!

Soooo....thats it. If everything runs good and we don`t have much for problems we should be close to rockin in a week or two....also depends on the weather!!!!

All fer now. LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you ride between Paradise and Strongs currently?

What's happening with the bridge on # 452????

Great job 👍 we here from Ohio appreciate your dedicated hard work. And all the time you put in . Kudos

You guys do an awesome awesome job and for anyone not liking what you are doing - they can go ride somewhere else - like oh IDK - North Pole?? Keep up the great work you do - we appreciate you !!!

Ignore the static...all of your hard work and time spent getting the trails prepared and maintaining them are greatly appreciated. See you 26 December.

Pictures of trail 8 and county rd 500 would be great

ALRIGHTY! Seems like the handful of cult followers is at it again....attacking people for asking a question about their sacred grooming club. Some are so mad they appear to be studdering(can ya can ya)! It’s amazing, every year its the same old story messing around in those pesky swamps while trail 8(high ground) becomes mogul mania! Oh yeah and by the way, myself, family and friends do help out a lot with other clubs in the area. At least with them you don’t get shouted down for a simple suggestion. I’ve seen this time and time again on this page and it really is a shame and it’s no wonder you don’t get the help you need. Maybe it’s just easier to make excuses rather than do the work. And please stop with all the “we do this for free, businesses to run, digging out, we just got this snow” crap. So do all the other clubs and their volunteers

Great job that all you groomers do👍❄❄⛄🌲

You guys are rock stars. Wishing I to lived up there as well so I could help.

Tell all your critics to put up or shut up. You guys do a great job. Thank you from one snowmobiler to another.

Good luck and thank you all for what you are doing!

Just relax guys! Season is early. Usually we aren't running on the trails till beginning of January! We are all anxious to hit the trails!

Thank you for your time and updates!!

Totally agree with other comments here. For those leaving negative comments or their "suggestions"on what you should be doing buzz off. until they are going to pitch in and help they haven't earned the right to have an opinion. Thanks for all you guys do. Will be there soon to enjoy your hard work!

We rode from newberry to paradise yesterday because the gate was open. Big mistake. All swap, lucky to make it thru!

Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Thanks for all your help Auburn Indiana see you soon

Thanks for all the hard work!

You guys ROCK! Thanks Cousin!

Thank you for all you do!

Great job!!!!

Thanks Chris!

Thank you!

Thank you all for your time

People will whine about everything, if you left them free beer at the trailhead for after the ride, they would complain that it was the wrong kind.

log bridges or culverts to drain off these areas... might be a start for better trails in many of these locations. ran into this years ago south and west of Paradise.

How is trail 8 out of town towards GM? I haven't heard any mention of this trail??

How in the heck does a water hole like that get fixed. Pardon my ignorant question.

Nobody’s been out on trail 8?????

Thanks all of your efforts. We need a 48 hour polar vortex!

December 8, 2019

38 degrees this morning, cloudy and kinda drizzely. It does look like the weather will change tomorrow. "They" are saying highs in the low 20`s and lows in the low teens for all of next week with a couple- few inches of snow each day but then warm up a touch into the low 30`s by the weekend......we`ll see.

Now on to the first part of business. We are low on help (as usual). It seems that we could get more help from the local businesses that depend on you snowmobilers but that just doesn`t seem to happen. Maybe if they would comment on our FB page about this post we could figure out why....we are open for any suggestions.

We are having a meeting this Wednesday the 11th at 6 PM at the new barn to discuss what needs to be done and hopefully recruit some new people. PLEASE!!!!! anybody who would like to help show up and some of you that have helped in the past but we haven`t seen in a long time....show up too!!!!

Now on to what went on yesterday.........

Groomers Mike, Dave M., Gerald and a part time local Ed Sabo went out in 2 machines and hit the Falls trail. I was unable to help cause I hurt my back last Thursday. They started out on the south loop trail #45 which runs from town to the old barn on the south side of M-123. They had to turn around half way thru cause the water holes were too deep, even for the groomers!!!!!! They cut back in on the trail at the old barn. Long story short, they did make it the rest of the way to the Falls but it was VERY MUDDY and there was a TON of trees down. They got the trees cleared but the gates are closed for now. We will wait for it to freeze back in this week before trying it again so don`t go around the closed gates. We will open them when it is safe.....first and last warning!! With the water this high I can only imagine what the south swamp trail looks like!!

All fer now.....keep checking back.....I`ll keep you informed (as usual).

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son and I do whatever we can to help. It is a 5 hour drive and lodging for the weekend and wish we could do more. We have noticed that support from the local businesses is almost nothing, especially those that benefit from the trail system and hard work of the volunteers. Where are the people from the only gas station in town?? Where are the hotel people?? Where is support from the small motels and restaurants?? Send some employees out to help with cleanup or help prepare a meal for the volunteers. It doesn’t seem fair that many benefit but don’t lift a finger to help. The groomer operators also have businesses to run and are stretched to the limit . Rant over...for now.

One would think the local buisness owners would be the first ones to step up and help. If the trails aren't maintained because there's not enough volunteers, people will go elsewhere which reduces business. I know you need to have customers during the summer AND winter to survive. If winter business drops off, some businesses may be forced to close. I really enjoyed MardiGras de Snow which I'm told went away due to lack of volunteers and help. I don't want to see Paradise dry up during the winter for the same reason.

I am going to snowshow back to my place off 452 Tuesday and if I see any brush I will clear. Bringing my saw. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you for everything you do.. I can't get up there until the 27th but I'd be glad to help!

Thanks for the information and all the help

To make a list of businesses, or call out specific businesses for not helping is not going to help the cause. A lot of businesses have a hard enough time finding help to run their own businesses.

December 9, 2019 First of all I would like to thank all the groomers who sacrifice their time to get the trails in shape for all snowmobilers to enjoy. Based on the number of snowmobilers and business owners that benefit from having nice trails you definitely should have more help. I do believe now that you have formed a club and are planning things ahead of time you will start getting more help. One question I would like to ask is...why is that the club can’t concentrate on trail 8 from Paradise to Pine Stump since it is all high ground. At least people could get to and from town if they want to stay in Paradise or come in from the west. I think everyone can agree that the swamps take time to freeze in and understand you may not be able to head south out of town or the falls until Mother Nature cooperates. At least this would benefit businesses and snowmobilers. Thanks Again Everybody

Mike, Gerold, Chris and Dave (I’m sure the others too but these I’ve seen in action) deserve an honorary degree in engineering and architecture for their “bridge building” skills. I’ve been riding in Paradise for 35+ years (all winter long for the last 20) and had no idea just how much water is underneath the falls trail. It’s not just the few areas that say wet area, it’s everywhere! Pictures don’t do justice.

NiceJob Pop!!
