Gaylord Area Trail Report – 03/25
Gaylord Bureau – <> http://www.gaylordmichigan.net/snowmobile-trail-report-114/ <> I was excited to see about 5 inches of new snow yesterday and decided I would get my sled out and go for a ride. There were several trees down on trail 7 from Frederic to Grayling but I made it around those with no issues. Where trail 7 comes to M72 by Tinkers I crossed hoping the gate would not be closed already this season and as luck would have it, it was open. The trail goes straight in and then a turn to the left. There are 3 power settings on my ski doo and I keep it in low most of the time. I saw water ahead and didnt figure it was an issue as I have done water skipping many times with no issues. Well after the hard left in the trail the water got deeper and I had no power and no time to switch it up 2 notches to performance mode. My belt got wet and that was it and there I was in the middle of the swamp. I figured it would be an all day ordeal but thankfully I called a friend who was there shortly with a couple of straps. He was smart enough to bring waders so I only got wet to the top of my boots. He pulled the sled to high ground where we let the water drain and then it fired right up. Still one more mud hole to cross but I had plenty of power and skipped right across. A big thanks to Jack for the rescue and I went home and had lunch and then rode back to Frederic. I still was the only tracks on the trail both ways from Frederic to Grayling. Pics below are from my ride and there are others in video on my Sledheads facebook page. Some snow to contend with in two areas tonight… steadier light snow south of M-72, and some residual lake effect in eastern upper. For some reason the groomer tracker in that machine isn’t working FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> I have said it before, I think this might be it…… it got up to 49 on friday but at least now its 23 on a cloudy saturday in Frederic at 9;30. Roads are very drty but still snow on the trails. 2 pics below show how much my parking lot changed since yesterday. I have seen sleds out already and the west parking lot on 72 had 4 trucks already this morning. I just returned from an early morning run to home depot in Gaylord and I have to say that all the way up I 75 to exit 282 in Gaylord looks like perfect winter day in northern michigan with everything in the woods and distance looking nice and snow covered. To bad today they claim we might hit 50 BUT I talked to many riders yesterday and everyone saying the same thing that trails are pretty darn good. I drove back from Gaylord to Frederic along trail 7 and pics below show how things look with fresh grooming on trail 7. Took pics both north and south of trail 7 across from Porter Haus and saw 4 sleds out and about before I got back here. Pics below for your viewing pleasure. Thanks for checking in. I am now in Frederic at about 10;15 and its still sunny and up to 27 degrees. Saw many sleds yesterday and I think its safe to say that there are many sites about trails that things are very good for riding right now. Still nice and white every where and things look pretty good. I never heard from the guys that were going to the bridge yesterday to know if they got there or not. Probably last good one in lower going to have go over bridge till get more snow FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Snow in the air all morning and its now 1 on wednesday and I have been trying to get on to do this and keep getting side tracked. We had about a nice 3 new inches of snow overmight and sleds have been out and about. Had a group of 8 or so 4 stroke arcitic cats come in and they were heading up for the bridge. The few new inches help cushion the rock hard concrete feeling frozen snow under neath. Groomers are out and about but I cant tell you exactly where but as usual there have been reports of both good and bad trails. As I have said before I have seen alot worse conditions. Equipment - We’ve got parts engineered and are on the way for the JD out of Alba. They worked on it today, hopefully next couple days we can get that back on line.
Weather - Don’t look now but the rest of the season doesn’t look good. We’ll adjust grooming for the temperatures and conditions. Mid 40s and 50s don’t make it an easy job
