Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/06
Gaylord Bureau – December 4, 2024 8:35 a.m. Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area currently has over 40 inches, with more in the forecast! The groomers have been running since trails opened on December 1st. All trails are open and in good shape. Please remember that even with the fresh snow we received, we are still building up our base. Groomers will keep running as we receive more snow. A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Want to be ready? No new snow and no plowing for me overnight. Just a little touch up here and there. A few sleds in so far this morning and I expect there will be a good amount in this morning. Took my first drive thru the motel parking lots in Grayling and not to busy with a total of 13 trailers between Days Inn and Ramada. I cant say I am thrilled with the weather reports for the next couple days but we are surely off to a agreat start so far. Parking is an issue, I am full down at storage and people are parking in my back lot. If you want to park daily back there come inside and see me. I also forgot to mention yesterdfay that on my return trip from the bridge the other night and south of Waters the Gaylord Groomer was deep off the trail in the ditch. Ground or should I say ice is still rock hard and it is now 33 degrees. I would think that once things start melting that if you were here you could still get in a ride. Trail crossings I looked at on the way up here are still pretty white. I looked at the sledview.com camera and it looks bright white with still no snirt and 12 inches showing on his depth guage. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Well its up to 25 degrees and while its still nice and white out there its rock hard and like riding on broken concrete. I bet I had about a dozen riders ask for ice scratchers yesterday. Riders also told me they saw several sleds pulled off and trying to cool things down. I have seen a few sleds out already this morning. Riding would get better if the sun melts a little on top so people have lube. So northern michigan is pretty much a big rough skating rink right now. Roads are very drty but still snow on the trails. 2 pics below show how much my parking lot changed since yesterday. I have seen sleds out already and the west parking lot on 72 had 4 trucks already this morning. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night.

Equipment - We’ve got parts engineered and are on the way for the JD out of Alba. They worked on it today, hopefully next couple days we can get that back on line.
Weather - Don’t look now but the rest of the season doesn’t look good. We’ll adjust grooming for the temperatures and conditions. Mid 40s and 50s don’t make it an easy job
