SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/28
2/28 6 pm update- The wind is still huffin’ and puffin’ and trying blow this house down. Barely any accumulation yet, but all forecasts agree that it’s still coming. Again- we are NOT saying it’s going to be great riding, we know it’s not going to last so keyboard warriors can sit this one out LOL. Only sharing info for those that want to know and plan to be here to hit the forest service roads for one last hoorah. It is highly unlikely that we will be grooming. Radar for overnight courtesy of Midwest Weather when I asked him if it was still coming. You be the judge ✌🏼

2/28 3pm- updated and extended. Now up to 12” in spots. So far, just a whole lot of wind, and annoying blowing snow here. Wind chill of -12. No doubt, whatever was on the trails is very solid right now. Time will tell if we do indeed get the measurable snow to cover it up.

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/5/26 This is wild to me! Dennis just got back from his run on trail 49 from the Soo to 12 mile. I ran this route with groomer Jay for several seasons. The branches being this low on 1/5 is nuts! This entire trail was brushed, but the base is so tall now that the machine is so much higher that it’s hitting the branches that couldn’t be reached in the fall. We don’t usually see this until mid February. We may need to organize a work bee to do some in-season brushing. I’ll share if we do! Thank you Dennis and Chris for the ride along! #soo #soo0105a#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A fast-moving system this evening through tonight brings 4 to 8 inches of snowfall to the area. Most snow will fall within a 6 hour period with moderate to heavy snow rates (0.5 to 1+ inch per hour) and quickly reduced visibilities down to 1/4 mile or less for a 2 to 4 hour period. Snow will end overnight into early Monday morning. The Monday morning commute could be impacted, especially in the east, mainly for roads that have not been treated/cleared yet. Late Monday night into Tuesday brings a wintry mix which could create more slick road conditions. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea...
