Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/24
Gaylord Bureau – February 22, 2024 – 9:34 a.m. The snowmobile trails have melted away, making them unsuitable for riding. We will keep you updated on any additional changes to the weather. Please check back for updates and trail conditions. ** Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous! ** As always, check back with us for updates and weather reports. http://www.gaylordmichigan.net/snowmobile-trail-report-114/ <> It’s a sunny and cold snowless saturday, I finally showed up here to Sledheads about 11 to spend the rest of the day here. This morning was one of the coldest mornings of the whole so called winter at about 5 degrees out when I got up. Now its up to 22 degrees On the way here I saw two atv’s and 2 side bys out riding near Tinkers Junction. I also saw one sled heading south but that was on a trailer. A couple friends pointed out that my travels in the past week took me from Lake Superior at the Soo for the I 500 and thats as far north as you can go to Key West as far south as you can go on the Atlantic to Santa Barbara on the Pacific at the west coast. And on the way back a pit stop in Denver in the Mile high city. I keep sitting here day dreaming about places to go. I saw a post from Alaskan Toy Rental in Palmer , AK and that is intriguing. A big shout out to Farmer Scott down in Ohio who bought me a delicious as usual prime rib dinner at the Frederic Inn last night. Thanks Scott. My photographer on the other hand didnt do my picture any justice. I also got to wear my man bib made for me by Mrs Moorbeck. It sure helps keep my shirts clean. Thats enough rambling for today. No one around and 31 degrees. Surprisingly we had about an inch and a half of pebbly sleet/snow yesterday. I only saw 2 groups of 3 sleds and one group of 2 all day yesterday. 3 of those sleds are pictured below and they were the only ones yesterday. Looks like we might get some snow the beginning of the week. The riders from yesterday were happy to be out but its hard out there. I met a youngster in town this morning from St Henry Ohio who is a regular rider. I didnt get his name. but its great to see young people wanting to ride. The best chances for heavy snow will be across the Upper Peninsula, and the snow belts of lower Michigan. Rain will likely mix in for portions of lower Michigan during the day on Sunday before transitioning to snow during the Sunday night into Monday time frame. GM, Chrysler, & Ford would all be closed up and thousands would flock north for winter break and fun in the snow. Well fast forward from that 30 years ago and its pretty darn lonely here now. Sleet coming down this morning and a marginal amount of snow. It used to be so much different with snow in Frederic compared to Grayling. Forcast isnt looking great for this week either. I did see a few sleds out on Christmas eve day and the pic below of the 3 of them over at the swamp. Nothing so far today and its 11 a..m and 29 degrees. So it looks like I will get a few t.v. shows in this week. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement.
