Sledheads of Frederic – 02/16

About 1 more inch fell since my update yesterday. From my cameras I could still see the one set of car tracks thru my drive at Sledheads. So I am still sticking with my thoughts from yesterday that it would only be kind of good for the first couple sleds thru. I see all kinds of posts on people that want to or are coming up to ride saying its only carbides and slides, all I know is I wouldnt take my sled out with what we have. I dont like it anymore than everyone else but thats just the way it is. On a brighter note I met Trevor Gruhn yesterday who is a regular reader from down by Kzoo. I fixed him up with a new Sledheads T and sweatshirt. He like everyone else wishes there was more snow too. We need a really heavy duty system snow to hit us. I talked to David over at the swamp last night and he said he only had 2 sleds in all day yesterday and that was about 9 last night. Thanks for checking in and if you do ride please ride safely. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Lingering icing across parts of northern lower MI this morning transitions to snow area-wide today. Several inches of new snow likely through tonight, heaviest across parts of the eastern U.P. and northwest lower. Snow combined with strong winds will result in whiteouts at times, especially near the Lake Michigan shoreline.
*Additionally, strong winds in areas that received heavy icing will exacerbate tree damage and infrastructural impacts*
Cold temperatures filter in to northern Michigan behind the major winter storm. Consequently, for those without power, dangerously cold temperatures are expected this afternoon through Tuesday night. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey

They report that tree damage has led to ~87% of the county's residents losing power as of this morning (3/16). One webcam that was operational on the east side of the lake displays ice-encrusted trees along the shoreline. Winds today could unfortunately exacerbate the power outage situation. #miweather #gaylordThe Houghton Lake and Roscommon County areas have been severely hit by freezing rain in the past 24 hrs, leading to a declaration of a local state of emergency by the Roscommon County Board.
