Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/07

March 7, 2022

26 degrees this morning with a light snow flitting around in the air. Sorry for no reports the last few days but I`ve been a VERY BUSY man. This weekend was a bear weather wise, and machine wise, but first the trails, cause this is what its all about.

We have been grooming ALL WEEKEND, even with this wet weather. We run drags that work pretty good in this stuff. Groomer Mike C. ran the Pine Stump trail #8 and the Falls trail #45 last night and called them both good. The Stump trail does have a couple of thin spots starting to show up tho, but nothing serious. Groomer Glenn ran the Point trails #452 and #453 last night also and called them good. The South trail #8 didn`t get hit yesterday but Groomer Dave M. is on it this morning. The trails got beat up pretty fast cause of the wet and warmer weather and the heavy traffic but we did try to keep up. I sure hope everyone had a good time. I haven`t heard too many complaints. Thats it for the trails, now here`s the rest of the story……..

First off……it started raining/freezing raining Saturday afternoon and it didn`t stop till Sunday. Everything was coated in ice Sunday morning. It stayed in the lower 30`s for most of that time so ya`ll know thats tough on the trails. We really did try to keep up. We only had 2 machines available for most of the weekend. Remember we had one down late last week. It was supposed to be up and runnin by the weekend but it gave us a hard time. Here`s what went on, if your interested…….We did get it going Friday evening. Groomer Zach took it on the Falls trail Friday night then Groomer Glenn took it on the Point trails Saturday morning. He finished that trail but when he was putting it back in the barn after his run he was rounding the back side of the barn and the other front wheel broke off! Luckily, and smartly, we had ordered parts for that side too when the first one broke off figuring that might be ready to go. We were planning to replace that one when the season was over. Soooo……Glenn called up the mechanic right away and he was in Gaylord. He turned around and headed back and by Sunday afternoon he had it back up and running!! We needed the mechanic to fix this cause it takes a special tool. We ordered one to have for the future BTW cause we could fix this ourselves. A HUGE thank you goes out to mechanic Brian (wish I knew his last name) from Prinoth for his dedication to us!!!!! Another HUGE thank you goes out to Mike and especially Glenn. He told me he had 32 hrs. into helping fix this mess. So, thats my story for today. Just wanted to show you the dedication we have for you and the trails…..all for free!!! If you ran across a bumpy section this weekend, cut us a little slack, we busted our butts!!!

RIDE RIGHT, RIDE SAFE
Groomer Chris

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> It's noon here on Monday, January 12th, and this week does present a couple instances of lake effect snow throughout the week. As a preliminary first call for the entire week, we've displayed current odds at areas receiving more than 4" of snow based on data from medium range models, and the WPC.
Most of the lake effect snow for the UP will fall between Tuesday and Thursday, where much of the higher elevation areas along Lake Superior currently have a greater than 50% chance at 4" of snow by the end of the work week. For much of the LP, lake effect snow will be confined primarily to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, especially AFTER Wednesday heading into Thursday. We are keeping an area of 1-20% across much of southern and central Michigan in the event wind shifts or passing clippers allow for extra accumulation, but the greatest chances for 4" will be in the far southwest corner, the thumb, or your typical lake effect zones across northern lower Michigan.
We have lake effect snow forecasts coming all week, along with other forecasts for other weather phenomena such as wind, rain, and perhaps mixed precipitation. NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-11-26
Around 4 inches of snow last night. I see the groomers all made it out. I would guess the trails should freeze up flat now.
I would imagine it will be lower traffic during the week. It would be a pretty good week to ride if you can sneak away! #newberry #snowphotos

Munising Area Trail Report – 03/07

TRAIL REPORT March 7, 2022

WET WEATHER RECOVERY IN PROGRESS!

Plenty of snow with overall trails in good condition. A majority of our system was groomed last night with improved conditions. It was a challenge for operators with the wet snow early on but finished results were favorable. We do have had a few rollers developing and some icy corners so stay alert for changing trail conditions. We are still waiting for return of the Big Deere. Thanks again to Trenary Northern Trails for helping out with clean-up grooming of Trail 417 and Trail 8 from there to Trail 7 North. Ride to the Right and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 3/5

Dean made a run last night to get corners cut and trails ready for today’s poor weather. He had some good results, but ran into some high water content snow from the warmup. Trails will take a beating with the weather and we will not be out tonight. We will be out as soon as temps allow us to make a cleanup run. Cross your fingers that it gets cold and the rain turns to snow. Ride right and ride safe!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We were able to get out for a short while last night. Trail is groomed from 417 to Rumley. Due to operator constraints, we were only able to make the partial run. It is an unfortunate reality we face as a volunteer organization. Between work and family obligations, we sometimes have small gaps in the schedule. Now that we have the trail set, we will be training in a couple more operators to help fill those gaps. A couple of our out of state operators will be back in the seat also! We are like every other club that does grooming. We are always looking for operators. If you have contacted us before and we didn’t get back to you, please feel free to reach out again. We didn’t forget about you. We just didnt have an opportunity to get you into training before the season ended. If anyone is interested in grooming, please send us a message! We will see what we can do to get you up in the seat!
Our repairs seem to have been successful and the snow is falling again! It does look like we have a small warm up coming soon, but it doesn’t look like it will stick around for any time. Sounds like results varied last night with a couple spots needing multiple passes to get back into rideable shape. It will definitely take a couple grooms with the hard base and fresh snow to get everything back to flat again. Ride right and ride safe! #munising #snowphotos
