26 degrees this morning with a light snow flitting around in the air. Sorry for no reports the last few days but I`ve been a VERY BUSY man. This weekend was a bear weather wise, and machine wise, but first the trails, cause this is what its all about.
We have been grooming ALL WEEKEND, even with this wet weather. We run drags that work pretty good in this stuff. Groomer Mike C. ran the Pine Stump trail #8 and the Falls trail #45 last night and called them both good. The Stump trail does have a couple of thin spots starting to show up tho, but nothing serious. Groomer Glenn ran the Point trails #452 and #453 last night also and called them good. The South trail #8 didn`t get hit yesterday but Groomer Dave M. is on it this morning. The trails got beat up pretty fast cause of the wet and warmer weather and the heavy traffic but we did try to keep up. I sure hope everyone had a good time. I haven`t heard too many complaints. Thats it for the trails, now here`s the rest of the story……..
First off……it started raining/freezing raining Saturday afternoon and it didn`t stop till Sunday. Everything was coated in ice Sunday morning. It stayed in the lower 30`s for most of that time so ya`ll know thats tough on the trails. We really did try to keep up. We only had 2 machines available for most of the weekend. Remember we had one down late last week. It was supposed to be up and runnin by the weekend but it gave us a hard time. Here`s what went on, if your interested…….We did get it going Friday evening. Groomer Zach took it on the Falls trail Friday night then Groomer Glenn took it on the Point trails Saturday morning. He finished that trail but when he was putting it back in the barn after his run he was rounding the back side of the barn and the other front wheel broke off! Luckily, and smartly, we had ordered parts for that side too when the first one broke off figuring that might be ready to go. We were planning to replace that one when the season was over. Soooo……Glenn called up the mechanic right away and he was in Gaylord. He turned around and headed back and by Sunday afternoon he had it back up and running!! We needed the mechanic to fix this cause it takes a special tool. We ordered one to have for the future BTW cause we could fix this ourselves. A HUGE thank you goes out to mechanic Brian (wish I knew his last name) from Prinoth for his dedication to us!!!!! Another HUGE thank you goes out to Mike and especially Glenn. He told me he had 32 hrs. into helping fix this mess. So, thats my story for today. Just wanted to show you the dedication we have for you and the trails…..all for free!!! If you ran across a bumpy section this weekend, cut us a little slack, we busted our butts!!!

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise to Seney today was excellent- We took “alternate” routes and boondocks to and from Pine Stump but I’m sure the paradise trails were fair despite the fact they are not being maintained at the present time. Massive drifts coming back and white out conditions made for a blast. Chics Hot Dog Stand 8 and 452 Paradiseprovided the Hot chocolate on the way out. Ended the evening at Wheelhouse Diner & Goat Locker Saloon back in Paradise. TASA, Grand Marias, and Seney operations have their trails dialed in beautifully- Andy’s Bar in Seney has the burger!! All areas received several inches of fresh snow today and it’s still coming down hard at 11pm. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
Thanks for the report! What’s going on up in paradise? We are planning our first UP trip next Friday staying there. Are their trails rideable or should we go elsewhere? Thx.

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise - Grand Marais-Pine Stump- lots of boondocking and two tracks.. Trails are brutally “hard” after the refreeze. Some sections got a few inches of fresh snow today which made for good but most were very “chattery” with engine temps constantly elevating. We stayed mostly off the trails where possible as the two tracks were excellent! If you are the kind that cares about hyfax and carbides- conditions aren’t for you but plenty of fun to be had. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> Did you miss us? We're Back! We discussed our community 😊 Very pleased with what we're finding so far, lost some base, knew that, 10 miles out, 2 groups of 6 sleds from behind leaving town. Squishing any water into the in the low spots into the snow, cool if you can go around and let them freeze up smooth, but now major damage at all and its been snowing since I left town. #newberry #snowphotos... A couple more fluffy inches and some blowing snow is still expected over the north central and eastern U.P. this morning. PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 12/19/25 15 degrees this morning and snowing. We got just a light dusting last night. Yesterday was a night mare. I hit 43 degrees here and got about a 1/4 inch of rain. We lost quite a bit of snow. Looking out my window I would say I have just less than a foot left. We were off to a good start! The big thing I think people don`t realize is that the snow melt has to go somewhere. Our trail system has a lot of low country and guess where the water goes....right.....back into the swamps! This water then gets warmed a bit because of the rotting vegetation and there you have it.....more darn water holes on the trails!!!! This is the main reason we can`t get going as early as some of the other surrounding clubs do. As far as our plans go.....It looks like the weather is gonna cool back down to normal for the next few days. We are gonna let things freeze back up and then Sunday we are gonna send 2 machines w/o drags down the Falls trail #45 and see what we got. Trails #452 & #453 around the Point are ridable but thin in areas, they are not groomed yet, just packed. Trail #8 to da Stump is groomed but it is thin in spots too. Trail #8 south is just packed and the gates into the Federal Forest section are closed because of water. Thats about it for now. This thaw really hurt our plans. LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and stay cold Groomer Chris #paradise #newberry ... See MoreSee Less
