Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/21

February 21, 2022

4 degrees this morning, cloudy and a stiff NE wind. No new snow last night but we did pick up a couple inches yesterday. The weather guessers are calling for 6-12 inches starting later today thru tomorrow……oh boy!

All of our trails are in great shape. We do have a problem out in the old burn area that we call Siberia. That area has some HUGE drifts and it will take us a few runs thru there to get that part back in shape. Just be careful and ride slower as there are some pretty big drop offs from drifting. Other than that, we are in great shape on the trails. Now, on to other things……..

We had a machine go down Saturday afternoon, so here`s the story on that. Strange thing. A spindle broke that holds one of the center tires on and it looks like that caused stress on the front tire and that spindle broke too. Have no idea how Groomer Glenn limped that thing back to the barn! He was 10 miles out in the boondocks! The front tire stayed inside the track but the center tire went somewhere. Soooo……he was on the Point trail #452. He did go out on his sled looking for it but did not find it. If you come across a tire and wheel with a broken spindle sticking out of it, PLEASE bring it to us! The thing weighs close to 100 pounds and costs close to $1000.

All I have for today. If we get this 12 inches of snow over the next few days the trails will be AWESOME! We do have a plan for runnin just 2 machines until we can get the other one back up.
Remember…..RIDE RIGHT……RIDE SAFE…..and…..

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Widespread snow will begin to spread west to east this morning while a heavier snowband looks to set up in the central UP this afternoon. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. Tonight, widespread snow transitions to lake effect snow for the north wind snowbelts.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-9-26
Made the 30s yesterday. Some rain in the night but it’s still winter!
Already getting the calls if we lost all our snow. Had someone say he decided to go somewhere else this weekend. I told him why are you calling me asking about the snow then if you’re not even coming here.
I love talking to people but I don’t have time to answer 100 phone calls a day asking how the trails are here and how they are in the soo munising etc . I try to post on here with photos and videos so people can see what it’s like.
Plenty of snow with snow in the forecast. I think a lot of people will be up this weekend. If nobody comes I’ll go out and enjoy all this snow myself i guess
Hope to see everyone this weekend #newberry #snowphotos

GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.
Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.
Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.
While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.
Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️ #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotosWhat It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association

Munising Area Trail Report – 02/21

TRAIL REPORT February 21, 2022

HIGH TRAFFIC and TWO DOWN!

It has been a high traffic extended weekend so trails are getting hit hard. We have been able to keep them in an overall good condition. Definitely the busiest weekend of the season so trails are expected to get choppy throughout the day. Unfortunately a blown seal took out our Pisten Bully last night so Trail 422 to Miners Castle and Trail 7 South to CR440 are expected to get really rough today. Hopefully we can get a matched part as soon as possible being down 2 machines again. We currently have our club owned John Deere and the Programs back-up machine covering. Also the U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race will be finishing up today so please see general warning below for details. Get out and enjoy the trails and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails –

I was able to get out and groom tonight. Results were nothing short of great! South wind tonight will create drifting in areas with south exposure. Trail will get choppy later in the day with more high traffic this holiday weekend. I want to thank the staff at The Throttle in Little Lake. Murder burger was on point! They always take care of our operators with a free meal. Make sure you stop in when you are in the area. Businesses that support the trail are the backbone of the trail. Without them, your ride would be a lot less fun. (Nobody really wants to eat a PBJ that bounces around your tunnel bag for 200 miles….) Ride right and ride safe!
