TRAIL REPORT March 8, 2022
NICE LATE SEASON RIDING!
Plenty of snow with overall trails in good condition. With the weekend rain and no new snow some sections of the trails have a loose layer of snow on top of ice. The recent sunny days are creating some icy corners and a few water holes so stay alert for changing trail conditions. Our 7 miles of Trail 8 North of Shingleton had extra attention yesterday with Operator Chris making 4 passes to clean out the (3) bridge crossings, moguls and banked corners. Snow in the weekend forecast will hopefully freshen the trails up a bit. Until then Ride to the Right and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 3/7
A few pics from last night’s groom. Snow faired the warm Temps and rain well. Trail is in good shape still. Some areas the snow is turning to sugar, and that doesn’t pack or set up so those areas will get choppy fast. But over all the trail is still in great shape. There are many branches hanging down from the ice, so keep an eye out for face slappers. They will go away when the ice falls off. Spent some time helping out S.O.R.V.A. last night as well. They are still down groomers, we will do what we can to help them out. Ride right, and be safe out there.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> The week starts out dry today with temperatures climbing above freezing across the UP. The next system brings a mix of rain and snow on Tuesday before temperatures turn sharply colder Tuesday night, followed by a round of potentially heavy lake effect snow in the north wind snow belts on Wednesday. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Light snow will continue moving into the western half of the UP over the next 2 hours. Snow will continue west to east quickly, diminishing in the Keweenaw and central as the night progresses. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We were able to get out for a short while last night. Trail is groomed from 417 to Rumley. Due to operator constraints, we were only able to make the partial run. It is an unfortunate reality we face as a volunteer organization. Between work and family obligations, we sometimes have small gaps in the schedule. Now that we have the trail set, we will be training in a couple more operators to help fill those gaps. A couple of our out of state operators will be back in the seat also! We are like every other club that does grooming. We are always looking for operators. If you have contacted us before and we didn’t get back to you, please feel free to reach out again. We didn’t forget about you. We just didnt have an opportunity to get you into training before the season ended. If anyone is interested in grooming, please send us a message! We will see what we can do to get you up in the seat!
Our repairs seem to have been successful and the snow is falling again! It does look like we have a small warm up coming soon, but it doesn’t look like it will stick around for any time. Sounds like results varied last night with a couple spots needing multiple passes to get back into rideable shape. It will definitely take a couple grooms with the hard base and fresh snow to get everything back to flat again. Ride right and ride safe! #munising #snowphotos
