Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/12

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/12

-Update as of 1/12-

***editing to add that we have a guy out on part of the city trails panning now***

Good morning all! We are back in a holding pattern until we get more snow. Most of our trails have at least been panned, with the exception of trail 49 south of the Soo to Gaines Hwy which is closed due to excessive water, and also the city trails have not been panned yet due to not enough snow. The storm isn’t supposed to start until 8 or so tonight, and is expected to bring 4-6” inches by tomorrow AM, then another few inches by midday tomorrow. High winds are also expected, so we may see downed trees. This is our complete trail report for now, which also can be found on the misorva.org page. Don’t forget, we are also on the Groomer Tracker app!

*Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Fair- thin, panned on 1/10

*Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 and #480 to just west of Spile Dam-
Fair to Poor- thin, a few wet spots, panned on 1/10

*Mission Hill trail #889

Fair- thin, some wet spots on the eastern part of the loop to the overlook. Panned on 1/11

*Bay Mills Connector Trail-

Poor – very wet and muddy. Please ride the road shoulder for now. There is a very large washout here! DO NOT attempt to cross it! We have rerouted around it along the road shoulder

*Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49

Poor- thin, some wet spots, we cannot groom here just yet.

*Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

CLOSED until further notice from Alberta Ln to Gaines Hwy due to excessive water.

*Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494-

Fair- thin, panned on 1/11

*Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of trail #472 & #480-
Fair- thin, panned 1/10

There is a long stretch of road riding along Ploegstra Road before you get to the Spile Dam area where it is down to pavement when we do not have recent snow

Ride safe, ride right, lead right, ride sober!❄️❄️❄️

<>

This is from Groomer Lane yesterday on his run on the southeast side of Kinross, trail 49 and 494.
“I panned and packed in and trimmed with sickle bar on 49 and 494 today. All we need now is cold and snow. Trail looks good.”
Thank you Lane!

Grand Marais Trail Report – 01/12

GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 01/12

Just a quick update on the the trail conditions from groomer Al. I ran our north trail (8-888-88) and the majority of the trail is thin. 888 has a lot of bare spots, some water holed, and is rough. The base in the best spots is at most 2-3 inches, and is easily spun to dirt. Even the dirt is still soft!

I also hit the southern end of our west trail (88-88/43-8) with the same conditions on those as well. The section of trail 8, south of the park and ride at the hairpin corner, has been plowed as there are loggers working in that area. The section on 88/43 that is marked wet area has standing water and mud. H58(😎 is snow covered and we panned from the park headquarters to the split of 8/89.

As we all know, WE NEED MORE SNOW and some cold temps. Ride safe guys/gals and go easy if you can!!!
EDIT: I put 2 video clips in comments!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> 8:21:PM Doused the lights at the entrance of 9 again tonight to wait for a group headed to Newberry.
Pray for H2O free diesel, and fracture free Metalergy tonight! 🙏
9:25 Check out this group, they have exiting and getting outta the way of the Groomer down to a Extreme Science! 🥰 ThankYou Very Much! You know who you are 😊
10:08 Lot and Lots of time to ponder things out here, and we see things out here sooner, and better from our picture windows and Lazy Boys, I was wondering how many of you come into corners at a Very respectful safety minded speed only to find a series of Rupp eating craters that had you in an entirely different spot half way around and coming out of that corner?
In and outta Windy Corners, I've done better, not the snows fault, kept loosing my prime, most, very nice, its a personal goal thing.
Intell has informed me we've had help grooming a chunk of 9 tonight, I'll keep you posted 😉
11:43 Yes, we've added a guest 😊 #newberry #snowphotos

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/23/26
NEGATIVE 2 degrees this morning and snowing. We picked up around 6" of snow yesterday and another 6 or so last night! It`s down right winter out der! All good news for yesterdays happenings so lets rock-n-roll.....
Groomer Mike C. took off in the morning and headed into da south swamp with just a machine. I took off with a machine and drag and headed south also but skipped the swamp section. Before I got done with the South trail #8, Mike radioed me and said hit the swamp with the drag on my way back. He got it packed in pretty good and it turned out good with the drag. It is only one lane for now but we`ll fix that tomorrow. THE GATES ARE NOW OPEN!!!!
After that Groomer Mike C. headed out on the Falls trail #45 with just the machine and Groomer Glenn pulling a drag following him. They got that trail packed in and groomed, it turned out great!!! Groomer Mike C. put in 12 hrs. in a machine yesterday filling and packing in water holes! Great job!!!
Today we are running the Pine Stump trails #8 & #9 and the Point trails #452 & #453. Not sure what we are gonna do with the other machine.
So......total green flag for our entire trail system!!!! COME ON UP and enjoy our hard work!!!!!!
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
