GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> 03/19
Mike and Al ran tandem last night on the north route. Al and Alex are currently running tandem on the east route. Both east and north routes were run out and back so they are relatively wide. Once they get back groomers will be heading out to the west and south route to get them widened out. Then hopefully we will be back to close to normal…

Trail report: Well groomer Alex and I set out yesterday to start breaking open trails. We made it 81 miles…. in 17 hours!!! Even the drifts had drifts!!! I was breaking the trail and Alex was grooming behind. When we got done, I had 14 more miles than him!!! 95 miles and burned 101.3 gallons of fuel!!!
We hit our west trail (8/89/88), then continued on 88 past the park and ride at M77 to 443. We ran 443 down to the bra tree, then headed back to our barn.
We will try and get our East trail(😎 and the north trail(8/888/88) today and tomorrow. There are a lot of branches and trees down throughout the area, so please be alert. As always, ride right and ride safe!
Trail boss Al.

The storm has passed and what a storm it was. Groomers left at noon today. They are running tandem due to drifting and downed trees. We hope to have everything in shape by Friday. Please ride with caution due to the conditions.

Trail update” WE HAVE SNOW!!! Unfortunately we are holding off grooming until the weather dies down and then long enough to get dug out!! I do not know how many inches of snowfall we have had with this current storm, but drifts are from 5 to 10 feet around my house and driveway!
I hope everyone is staying safe and indoors. It took about 35 minutes to dig out far enough for our dog to go out… and right back in!!! I put a shovel in the snow on top of where our generator is…in case power goes out and it don’t start I will be able to find it. Stay safe, ride right, and for now, bench race!!!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> Trail 9 9PM Eh, hour and a half to second stop sign, 10.3 mile, not spinning, good bite but pulling alot of disagreeable heavy snow. Blade still wants to push up a wad and roll balls off the end. So, creative dragging it shall be for the time being. AGAIN, THEY SAY, its actually supposed to get quite cold tonight, what I am able to leave behind is shaved off highs an filled in holes, if it freezes up, should last much longer than the last several grooms. We shall see. Keep you posted. 10:34 Windy Corners finished, not bragging but its flat, again if temps work with us, it freezes up, should offset any memory underneath, thats what I'm gunning for. Just turned right to disappear in radio silence, time to get comfy for the long haul,I'll keep you posted later. 😊 #newberry #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

Trails were good I thought we rode up past pine stump and did little loop on 8/9 than back to newberry and last mile coming into newberry was pretty slushy from the warm all in all way better riding than we did on Saturday to trout lake!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Here`s what has been happining on the trails...... Groomer Dave ran trail #8 south of town, skipping the swamp of course, and called it good. He did crack the ice on the big holes on the south end of the power line. We will run it again Sunday but if we break through that ice we will be done with that trail. The one hole can get 3' deep. I got one VERY important thing to mention on this trail. We have the swamp section ribboned off with caution tape cause the gate is buried in snow. Some JERK(S) ripped down this ribbon and rode thru. We redid it now but this act was VERY dangerous. If somebody just followed your tracks and got stuck in there it could have been serious. PLEASE respect the roped off trails!!!!!!
