SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association – 02/13
The SSA needs your help setting up for the 20th Annual Vets Ride. If you’ll be up in the Seney area on Saturday Feb 24, 2024. We could us a hand setting up for the 20th Annual Vets Ride. We have to set up all the tables and chairs. Clean out the Big Red Barn and a few extra things around there. If you can lend us a hand it would be greatly appreciated. More hands equal less work. We’d like to get this all done on Saturday the 24th if possible.
It take a small village to set this all up. If you can lend a hand please let us know. We look forward to doing this event for the Veterans year after year.

2/15 9:30 PM update-
Good evening! Had to run out and fill up the plow truck so I took a little spin by the trail crossings in the Soo. These trails were down to mud and some water puddles as recently as this past weekend. They are definitely snow covered now, but they look pretty thin still to me. No doubt you’d be hitting rocks and roots in spots as it sits right now. There’s less snow in town than there is at my place, and the wind is really whipping so it’s hard to gauge just how much is actually on the trail. The drift area by the airport is probably pretty deep though LOL. We are supposed to get maybe another 4” or so tomorrow. I’m not sure it’ll be enough to move the groomers, but I did see sled tracks already.
My spotter in Kinross said there’s about 6” on the ground down there, so I’d imagine is likely very similar to what I saw in the Soo on the trails there. If you happen to ride there, please let us know what you see.
Like always, the Bay Mills/Raco area has the most snow, and much of the area still had a base. I have a message out to the groomer boss out that way to see when and if they might be out to at least pan.
Can you ride? For sure. Is it good? That’s subjective. If you’re itching to go, you can find enough. All I can do is report what we see and hear. If you do head out, please be careful. It’s going to be like riding in December, on trails with little to no base. I’m betting the forest service roads and off trail spots are more than rideable now so that’s always a nice option.

2/15 update- Good morning! About 2” of new snow so far, and coming sown pretty good. It’s good consistency too. Not wet and sloppy, and not fluffy like LES. I’ll update later!❄❄❄

Bryan and his son Logan hit the city trails last night and also 49 down to 7 mile and they turned out great! The little streams behind Kewadin Casino are still flowing (see the video in the comments) even with all of the cold, but our bridges have made a huge difference in there! There is one spot along the Kewadin trail that is soft and we keep filling it in as best we can. Likely a nonissue for the weight of a sled, but worth mentioning. Brimley Bill brought the Pisten Bully in to the Soo barn from Raco via trail 8 and groomed along the way. After 6”+ of new snow yesterday, the berms at the road crossings needed to be cleared.
