Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/21

Gaylord Bureau –

January 21, 2026

1:15 p.m.

We definitely don’t have a shortage of snow! Snow has continued to fall and trails are currently in good condition. We had a busy weekend with lots of riding and it may be bumpy by Lakes of the North and Johannesburg. Trail 7 is looking great! Be safe out there and have fun!

Visiting this weekend? Check out the Michigan Snow Run – Pink Ribbon Riders event!

Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in several locations. The newest locations are around Van Tyle and North Townline Road (Gaylord) and the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake. Logging is also taking place on trail #4 along the powerline that crosses Evergreen Drive and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to smooth the trails out in these areas.

If this winter is anything like last year, it’s going to be another epic one! Want to be ready? Get a free trail map delivered right to your mailbox and plan your adventure!

Check out a live view of trail # 7 here.

A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.
– Ride safe and ride sober.

Want to be ready? Get a free trail map delivered right to your mailbox and plan your adventure!

As always, check back with us for updates and weather reports.

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/21

Had a great 160 mile ride yesterday. Started out riding to Frederic from home and then to Starvation Lake, Alba, Jordan Valley Trail, D & K formally Larrys in Elmira, up the Chandler HIlls trail until I lost the trail right at dark, then a little ditch banging as after i lost the trail I started south and east as I knew I would hit the highway. Came out by Vanderbilt and theh hit the 7 trail back to Gaylord, Waters and Frederic…..Perfect day of riding. Met up with Big John and Speed Bump for Spike burgers about 9 last night.I might go again this afternoon as I am thinking about a burger at Talleys. Supposed to get cold this weekend. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> We gained a bunch of new followers here at MSC, so for those who are new here, welcome! We do more than just track storms. With our degreed meteorologists on staff, we also have our own in-house forecasts releasing every day, 365 days a year. Unfortunately, for our warm-weather enjoyers up north, this forecast is not for you.
Snow is likely today, March 7th, 2026 on the backside of the low pressure system moving through, while parts of southern Michigan reach the mid-60s today. Most of the snow will fall along the spine of the western Upper Peninsula, where 2-5" of fresh snow is possible in the cornflower blue coloring. 1-3" of snow also possible in nearby Baraga and western Marquette county. A trace to 1" is possible for all areas in white, but most of these areas won't see more than a couple flurries mixed in with light freezing drizzle. Snow should be done by 10 pm EST across the Upper Peninsula.
The rest of the state will be dealing with temperatures in the 40s to 60s with showers and thunderstorms, clearing by late evening. This will set the stage for a mostly sunny Sunday ahead. We got you covered as always right here at Michigan Storm Chasers, no matter the weather. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #petoskey #gaylordWe gained a bunch of new followers here at MSC, so for those who are new here, welcome!
