LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> 01/18
Good morning. Bergland Area update for Friday evening 1/17/25. Groomer’s left the shed around 6pm. Temperatures at that time were 34°. The snow was slushy and not rolling through the drags. (We considered parking them, glad we didn’t!) Trails were in bad shape. Once we got through the corridor and to the actual trail head the snow got significantly easier to work with and by 9pm was starting to freeze in pretty tight!
We were shorthanded so 102, 1n, 13n and 13s were the only trails covered but we always try and focus on the heavier traveled trails. What was groomed last night didn’t turn out perfect due the significant temperature drop and wet snow but are far better than they were.
There’s lot’s of traffic!! Be safe and let it snow ❄❄❄ Gogebic Area Grooming

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Trail Report 1/11:
This is an easy one!! All of our trail system was groomed yesterday!
Every trail is in good to very good condition with the exception of Trail #1 along Lake Superior between Silver City and The Porkies Ski Hill. Very light snow, mostly snirt, slow down for any low area as they are bumpy.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Widespread snow will begin to spread west to east this morning while a heavier snowband looks to set up in the central UP this afternoon. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. Tonight, widespread snow transitions to lake effect snow for the north wind snowbelts.

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Hamilton's North Coast Adventures >> Trails remain EPIC! INCREDIBLE snow pack and great sled clubs continue to make trails beyond amazing! We spent 7 hours this morning out doing the lord's work cutting them bumps down from Ontonagon to Rockland to White Pine. Come ride!! Temps are perfect for winter adventures! ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> TRAIL REPORT: We groomed Trails 137, 101 and 13, Trail 12 from Potato Farm Rd to White Pine, and Trail 1 from Trail 12 to Lake of the Clouds. All trails are in surprisingly good condition except Trail 1 along Lake Superior which has a thin, snurty ice base.

WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> Here's the updated 24-hour snowfall forecast through 7am Sunday (top figure) compared to the same forecast from two days ago (bottom figure). No big changes for the UP, although a bit more snow is now forecast for the Keweenaw and central UP. Then, light to moderate snow spreads across the UP early Saturday morning through the afternoon, with lingering lake effect snow in the north wind snow belts Saturday night. Lake effect winds down Sunday. WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> UPDATED 1/9/26- We seem to have weathered the slight warm up and trails seemed to have held up snow wise. Trails are a little choppy but our groomers are out so hopefully they will be back in good shape by tonight. We had to switch groomers going west so groomer tracker is not showing but will get that back up and running soon. A lot of trees came down again with the last little storm so please watch out for trees and remember Ride Right and Ride Safe. Watch out for groomers also. #watersmeet #westernup

The good and the bad.
First we'll start with the good. Everything in our system will be groomed tonight before you all wake up.
The Trail's were in very bad shape. Heavy traffic, and warm Temp's, we kinda expected as much.
We had one machine leave early (4pm). Snow was rolling through the drag and blade but everything started freezing in tight quickly and traffic over a fresh groomed trail we started getting sugar snow. (Which doesn't pack well). There's plenty of snow out there but we need some new to help improve what we're working with. They are calling for a couple inches tomorrow which will help bring the moisture back.
We'll keep plugging away and get everything back in shape but it will take a few passes... Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos
