Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/08

We have snow in the forecast for today through Wednesday. This system should be east of Ironwood. We will let you know tomorrow how much snow we receive. Temps will be in the teens and 20’s.

The Gogebic Trail Authority reported trails were last groomed 1/5/19. Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is good. Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield was last groomed 1/5/19 is fair and is extremely icy; the hill climbs to Indianhead from Blackjack Big Snow Resort on the west side and east side climb up from Wakefield are icy. Wakefield to Marenisco is good. There is logging 3 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Logging trucks have the right away so please give them the right of way.

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is good to very good it was last groomed 1/5/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 is good; last groomed 1/4/19. The southern 10 miles is a bit rough yet. The northern 15 miles is beautiful. There are a few water holes about 5 miles north of Ironwood. They are small but the hazards exist. Ride with caution.

Trail 11S CLOSED was last groomed on 1/2/19. The water hazard had over 8″ of ice, some spots 12″ and it broke back open. We do not advise riding it as side trails around it will be tough as there are many tag elders. Please be aware for a water hazard 1.75 miles south of the Chaney Lake outflow/West Branch of Presque Isle River

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

The Gogebic Area Groomers reporting trails are good and were groomed on the 2nd.

Trail 1 N from Bergland and the North Shore of Lake Gogebic is in very good condition. White Pine to Silver City is ridable, but in poor condition. There is one large marked waterhole about 4/10 south of Silver City which they hope to get to this week.

Trail 1 S (to Presque Isle has been recently groomed. Conditions are good but the snow gets thin south of Marenisco. It has been groomed from Marenisco north to the West Shore Resort and ends there for now.

Trail 102 South Boundary to trail 102 is in good condition with a few wet spots.

Trail 8 East Across the top of Lake Gogebic is in very good shape. East is fair to good.

Trail 8 West fair

13 North very good conditions.

Trail 100 CLOSED

The Watersmeet Thunder Riders reports groomers will be running on a regular schedule as long as the weather permits. Trails are in good shape with very few thin areas. There are some water spots so use caution. Trails were lasted groomed on the 7th.

Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is in good condition, wet area 17 miles west.

Trail 2 east of Watersmeet a little thin in areas but good condition.

Trail 13 south of Cisco Chain is in good condition

Trail 13 south to Land O’Lakes good condition, few thin areas

Trial 3 north to Paulding/Bond Falls/ Bruce Crossing-Good condition, use caution on corners because of thin base.

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
