MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 12/16
Trail Report has been posted. https://www.algersorva.com/trailreport/12-16-2024/
Warm Temps have grooming operations on hold. Expected to be grooming Wednesday evening based on weather guesser predictions. The attached pictures are from Sat night when we were able to groom in the BearTrap to the BearsDen down in Shingleton. It was a frozen up and locked in nice. Hope this melt down does not set us back too much. We should be able to get to a normal grooming schedule on this trail.
We are seeing issues with the John Deere 6175 and the 6155. A john Deere technician will be here with the needed parts in hand Wednesday morning.
The 6175 had a code pop up Saturday. The tech thinks we have a pump failing. It seems it can be replaced easily from under the tractor after removing the drive shaft. It is an external pump. See picture of code we have.
The 6155 has issues with the front blade module – controller. We repaired all of the physical damage. Now we have electrical stuff going on. The tech is bringing all of the parts that could possibly be causing the issues. Our hope is this machine will be good to go Wed night as well.
Last Friday night we attended an appreciation dinner hosted by The H58 Snow Cocks. It was a good time. They provided dinner, drinks, and sweatshirts for the groomer operators. We cant thank them enough! The steaks were huge and very tasty. 5 of us were able to make it out. We got to hang out with folks from several clubs in the area. Seney, Grand Marais, Curtis, Newberry, and a few others. It was great to exchange some war stories. We are all a part of the Eastern UP Motorized trail association. We meet monthly. This organization has been the best source of mentorship for us. These folks really know what they are doing and have many years of experience. We always are here for them and the same goes for them being there for us. Parts exchanges, mechanical knowledge sharing, grooming for one another when we have breakdowns. We all face the same challenges.
ALGER SORVA DECEMBER MONTHLY MEETIGN IS BEING CANCELLED.

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> Groomer operators were checking traffic levels and we had feedback from some drift busters and we will be looking into conditions tomorrow before we pull the trigger on grooming. Conditions are getting more favorable, but the snow isn’t settling fast enough with sleds avoiding the drifts and knocking the air out of them. At 16 thousand pounds, the groomer doesn’t float enough in soft deep snow and we dont have a second machine to self rescue. So bear with us as we constantly monitor and discuss amongst our operators on the earliest optimum time to safely hit the trail. Guaranteed, as soon as we all agree on a green light, you will have a smooth trail! #munising#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A clipper low will bring widespread light snow to the U.P today with generally less than an inch of snowfall. The exception will be in the northwest wind snowbelts where up to 4” of dry fluffy snow is possible. It will be cold for New Years Eve and those headed out should dress accordingly; temperatures in the single digits and breezy conditions will result in sub zero wind chills. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaA clipper low will bring widespread light snow to the U.P today with generally less than an inch of snowfall. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We are all cleaning out after all of this snow. Sounds like great snow coverage from end to end. That’s the good part! The bad part is we have so many wind prone areas with heavy drifting, that we need to let it settle for a day and get some sleds over it before we send out the groomer. It is the downfall of being a one groomer club. We don’t have the availability of running tandem to quickly recover from a storm like this. But…. This is the perfect time for all of the “adventurous” riders to break trail in GREAT SNOW!!! Just beware of fallen trees. Carry a saw and report back to us if there are any big ones down that need serious attention. We will report back as soon as we get back out! Be safe out there! #munising#snowphotosWe are all cleaning out after all of this snow. Sounds like great snow coverage from end to end. That’s the good part! Groomer Report; Trail Condition: Fair Last Groomed: December 14th, 2024 Reported On: December 16th, 2024 @ 11:03am
We have had some warm weather again, too warm for grooming yesterday, Sunday the 15th. We are watching the temps closely and will go out tonight if the weather allows.
Please ride on the RIGHT side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!
Stay on the trail, if you don’t we could lose trail permissions on private property.
We now have the Groomer Trackers installed and working on our groomers.
We groom every day that the weather conditions and equipment allow. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns.

WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> UPDATED 12/30/25- Groomers were finally able to get out today and groom our entire system and clear all big obstacles that were on or blocking the trails. Both groomers were out 9 to 10 hours to get through everything but still expect some mirror wackers as it will take a while to get all them. We got anywhere from probably 12 to 20 inches of snow so it is going to take a few days before the trails are really going to set up. We will be on a more consistent grooming schedule moving forward as long as weather cooperates and groomer drivers are available. Big thanks to some of the snowmobilers that stopped and help us clear some of the big trees and if you see something on the trails please try to pick it up to help our drivers out. WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> UPDATED evening- 12/29/25 due to power outages and clearing snow we were not able to get groomers out today. But with the help from some we did get some of the down fall cleared so it will be easier from groomers to get through. We will be getting out tomorrow morning and continue clearing and grooming and if all goes well should be able to get on a regular daily grooming schedule. Will give updates as we go. #watersmeet#westernup#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
