WOLVERINE – GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via The Thirsty Sturgeon >> 12/29 I don’t know who’s shoveling this pile outside the front door…. But I know who’s not shoveling it!! Plenty of the white stuff for the entire week sledders! We’re open EVERY day this week. Including New Years Day!! <> <> Gaylord Bureau – December 29, 2025 Trails are in poor to fair condition after last week’s warm up, but improving steadily today. We had a few days of freezing rain that packed down a solid base and we are currently experiencing heavy snowfall. Trails may be icy in places where the snow hasn’t covered the ice up yet. Expect lots of drifting with heavy wind expected throughout the day. Grooming will resume as soon as conditions allow. We will be in touch with the groomers once they’re back on the trails and keep you updated! Main roads are drivable but back roads are very icy at this time. Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there is a logging operation near Turtle Lake Road and Douglas Lake Road – the logging trucks are using the trail as a road. The trails are passable, but they’re in poor shape. Proceed with caution in these areas. If this winter is anything like last year, it’s going to be another epic one! Want to be ready? Snow is about 4 inches so far and its a wet and heavy snow, tough to plow and hard to ride in. We just cant win on this. Winter storm warning till 1 tuesday morning. Riding today should still be o.k. but hard out there and thats better than mush. Already had first rider of the day in and his pic is below with a couple other pics to show the snow is holding. Presidents weekend is usually a big weekend, I still dont like the forcast for next week but we still have lots of snow in the woods and its a long ways from gone. Thankfully it never made 32 yesterday and if the temps do reach the predicted highs it should only be for a little while in the late afternoon. Its cloudy and quiet out there and hopefully the sun stays hidden. If you do ride just be careful of icy corners. Thanks for checking in. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> We know you'll pass by this post for snowfall today, but here on February 12th, 2026, it's quite a reflective moment to see just how far we have come this winter. Just a couple weeks ago it was lake effect snow every single day. Today, a light band of 1-3" near Munising is all we will need to write home about. We even tossed in some humor for those not in a designated snowfall zone. A couple slick spots will pop up along M-28 near Munising, and perhaps around Petoskey if a longer lake effect band happens to form, but this is more unlikely than likely. Just had a group of guys in that rode down from Gaylord and their trail report was not encouraging as they said it was rough. We really havent had any new snow in a week and I am not thrilled with the weather forcast thru next tuesday showing 30s and even a 40 in that time frame. Most all of the snow that we have is well worn now. My supplier is pretty much back ordered on many items that I need. I tried to get 20 different items and all but 4 of them are on back order. Carbides especially have been back ordered since early december. Here we are almost half way thru Feb and we should be in our prime time right now. I wish I had better to tell you. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
