Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/19

Winter is here!!! We have gotten 5" of new snow in the last several days with more snow falling right now. The total snowfall for today and tonight is suppose to be anywhere from 2"-4". Our temps through the weekend will be in the teens with lows in the single digits. Over all conditions are good but don’t be surprised if you run into some wet and icy spots. Please ride safe!!!!

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Reports grooming is ongoing trails are for the most part good. You will find some wet spots and icy spots. Trail 2 is groomed, there is one bad spot between where trail 2 & 8 meet to Great Lake Rd. Otherwise the trail is good. Trail 8 is groomed and is in good condition. Trail 160 is groomed but expect some rough spots; we need more snow on this trail. There are wet spots and the swamps are still not froze. Trail llN is groomed except for the last 3 miles by the lake. This trail is early season riding. Expect wet spots and mud.
We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Conditions are good in most areas. The good news is the wet spots are firming up with all the cold weather we have had. More snow is in the forecast for the next 10 days. Watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Groomers went out and are reporting all trails are in good condition and snow covered, with the exception of a few wet spots so please use caution riding.

Please keep in mind the groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/19

Great snow out west of Raco, groomed last night with 4-8 inches of fresh stuff. Trails are getting better each time we groom them. Still issues with wet areas or the water spots we have every year, as they are still not completely frozen. Temps have been around 20 so it is settling some of the fluff and packing into a good base!
