Trail Report from Snowblitz Snowmobile Rentals
OK, this winter has no doubt packed a blow to, not only us rental guys, but any business connected to snow related activities. As of this weekend we had 17′ of fresh snow and yes wet heavy snow at that. As a result the branches down over the trail are many, since all of the trail maintenance is done by volunteers, most folks have to work M-F. So,the decision has been made to close the Traverse City trails for the rest of this season. Which could be 1 week or maybe 1 month who knows. As for riding off the trail and through the woods, not real sure whats permitted at this point. We will be sending any Traverse City rental folks to our Mancelona/Gaylord locations which ARE OPEN and have great snow. Their trail networks are awesome.. So not great news, sorry. I will update if anything changes…
Cheers,
Brett

Talk about a weird winter no big storms for January and February now we get into March and they’re are talking big storms…
The trails as of yesterday were pretty good early in the am, as the day got warmer as you would expect they were slushy. Still covered and a good amount of snow out there. Tonight weather channels are forecasting 8″-12″ of snow for this area, over Friday and Saturday.
Temps next week are going to warm up. So with all this snow and some warmer temps next week will make for some awesome spring snowmobiling. Drop us a line or book a sled online at snowblitz.com…
Cheers,
Brett

We did get a little snow from overnight storm, maybe 1 1/2′ There is more snow in the forecast for the upcoming weekend. Trails will be icy, with a thin coverage of fresh snow for this weekend. Not great but usable. In the woods there is always more, however watch out for stumps and mounds under light cover. As you go east to Blue Bear and Mancelona snow is better and has held up longer with warmer temps.
Cheers,
Brett

As of today the trails are icy and covered in most areas. Looking at the forecast we are expect storm to drop 4-6′ on Thursday through Saturday/Sunday. If that comes we’ll be in great shape, solid and icy underneath with a good layer of fresh snow on top. Most likely it will still be slippery in places. Temps are also staying a degree or two lower than that has been forecast… more good news. Stay tuned this weekend could turn out to be one of the best this season. Easy when you set the bar low.
Cheers,
Brett

It looks like we’re in business once again. With 5+’ last night and good amount more in the forecast with cold temps for the next week. We will be open this weekend and conditions will be good to start, depending on how much traffic is on the trails will depend on how they hold up. Groomers will go out today to pack it down. Lets hope it continues! See you this weekend on the trail!
Cheers,
Brett

i’d like to be reporting better news. But we just haven’t had a come back from the warm temperatures of couple of weeks ago. The trails have been barely ridable with cold nights and mild days. So as of now it appears we are done for the season. On a brighter side, spring is just around the corner and we rent ATVs and boats, jet skis, also we have a Monterey 33ft Cabin Cruiser in Charleviox. The weather is to warm to groom so the groomers have been parked for now. I just got back from checking the trail in a few places on the west side of the trail system. The trails are in fair shape right now, we have lost a lot of snow especially out in the open areas where there is some bare ground showing. There is still a lot of snow in the woods, the trails in my opinion are rideable but they are mostly ice. I’m sure that there is some bare spots on the trails and dirt roads will be down to dirt now, getting into towns will be difficult also. The south part of the trail system from M-186 south was getting pretty thin before the warm up, so the trails might be bare down that way. If you are into riding off trail on power lines and gas lines and wooded two tracks then there is decent snow snow. They are calling for colder temps for the next couple of days with a chance of snow. cheers Brett

Well, the warm weather has not been good. Trails have held up surprisingly good considering warm days. Mainly because nights have been cold, the wind has cooled down temps and traffic has been low. This weekend, at this point will still be ridable, with snirt in usual high traffic areas. Temperatures we expect to cool down Friday or Saturday. I took a drive through Mancelona and Gaylord yesterday, and Traverse City and Mancelona definitely have more snow than Gaylord. I will update closer to the weekend.
See you on the trail!
Cheers,
Brett

I’m sure it’s no surprise that we have had plenty of snow. At least 2″ yesterday and cold temperatures remain. Trails were groomed last night for the upcoming weekend and look great. Snow, snow, snow. Well I know I probably don’t need to do a trail report because most folks are still digging themselves out from the last storm. Yes we do have great conditions this weekend. We got approx 8′ from the last storm and have cold temeratures. The weekend looks like having 28-30 deg which will mean awesome riding for super bowl weekend. Once the roads are cleared, take a trip up north, trails are expected to be a little quieter this weekend. For those that want to get away and won’t be glued to the TV watching Super Bowl it will be a great weekend to escape the city and hit the trails!

We’ve had a good few inches since the weekend! Much needed after the huge volume of traffic hit the trails pretty hard over the holiday weekend. The groomer went out last night and had a good run at knocking off bumps and bringing conditions to the great level once again. The temps have been real chilly, so if coming North bring plenty of warm layers.

About 5″ of fresh snow last night. AWESOME. definitely needed. Today trails should be in great shape, and remain that way over the busy weekend. Sure the hot spots will take a beating, however this extra snow will just add to already deep off trail riding. It will be good riding along power lines and seasonal roads. We still have cold temps in the forecast, and snow each day, no big storms in the foreseeable future. As you head from the Ranch towards Fife lake and Mancelona it gets better. Want to book a sled just go online and book a sled direct from our web site. Also, we are having a antique snowmobile show and free snowmobile rides, free sleigh rides, for families, hot chocolate. Come on over..!! PEASE do not call for trail conditions. This is the most updated report we have. Cheers Brett

Went out yesterday for a short 50 mile or so ride, trails were a little thin in places, overall not too bad. Off the trail on seasonal roads and power lines were awesome. At least 12′+ of good snow, really a blast.
We still have cold temps in the forecast, but not too much snow. As you head from the Ranch towards Fife Lake and Mancelona it gets better. Visit us online and book a sled direct from our web site.
On January 22 at Ranch Rudolf we are having an antique snowmobile show and free snowmobile rides, free sleigh rides, for families and NON snowmobilers, hot chocolate and more! Come on over..!! This is the Ranch Rudolf Relic Days….so free rides!
PLEASE do not call for trail conditions.

We did not get as much as expected from the storm on Thursday, we still have been getting a few inches each day. Approx 5′ Saturday night on the Boardman Valley Trail. Conditions are awesome on the trail, with cold temps and not too much traffic. It has been great! Not sure how much snow we’ll get from this storm tracking across the country. Sounds like it has a lot of snow, but is way south of us. Come UP and see us at Ranch Rudolf, onsite lodging, burgers and beer, 50 yards from the trail.
See you on the trail!

Merry Christmas……….. Well, we certainly do have warmer temps than we would like. The trails have been holding up good. Still good coverage, because traffic has been light. There is no doubt that some fresh snow would make things better. Around the Ranch as of yesterday and there were little to no dirt spots. Good snow in the woods, 12+”. For the hard core experienced riders is it worth a trip to TC…? Sure, at this point. We’ll have to wait and see how things are on Wednesday, until then absolutely. For the non seasoned holiday riders/renters we should be OK for the week.

The groomers have been out every day this week and reporting very good trails. The trails will be in great shape for the week so come on up and enjoy the beauty of our trail system. Temperatures are going to be in the high 20s the week leading into Christmas with snow in the forecast each day, although it’s just a little.
Remember all of our groomer drivers are volunteers, and most of them are snowmobilers giving up some riding time to groom so that you have groomed trails to ride on, so if you get a chance tell them thank you or a thumbs up, it means alot to them to know they are appreciated. Make sure to pick up one of our trail maps, we have some out on the trails in mailboxes at some map board locations and at our map sponsors.
We have a good line of new Ski Doo rentalsleds this winter, including 2011 MXZ 600ss and the New Four Stroke Ace 600cc twin cyclinder TNT. Come check it out.
