MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 02/04
TRAIL REPORT – Thursday, 02/04/2021 WINTER STORM WARNING – LETS HOPE THIS IS A GOOD ONE! No changes as of yet but we are under a Winter Storm Warning starting today with 7 to 14 inches of snow forecast. Lets hope we are lucky and its on the heavy side. For now Trails are in overall Good groomed and Riding conditions across a majority of our trail system but snow is soft with a thin base. North of Shingleton was flattened out but hard and thin with little to work with closer to Shingleton, expect to see some gravel mix in areas. We also have a logging issue up there (see General Warning in Detailed Report Link below). Some tight corners are getting icy throughout our area so ride with caution. Trail 422 has vehicles still driving on Miners Castle Road. Trail 419 between Munising and Wetmore is rough with a challenging creek crossing and no snow to work with, ride with caution. Trail 418 has little snow with a gravel mix along the big lake near AuTrain. Please respect residential property owners and STAY ON THE TRAIL, No Snowmobile Signs mean just that. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 02/03
Snow fall totals have gone up for the upcoming storm this Thursday. Now we are looking at 6″-10″ of snow. It may be wet and heavy, but we will welcome it to add to the trail. Keep praying and doing your snow dance. Hope we get it.

GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers will continue in the northwest wind snowbelts this morning and then begin to shift north and offshore this afternoon into the evening as winds become southwesterly. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Then a transition over to lake effect snow over the west to northwest wind snowbelts. 3 to 7 inches of snowfall over the east tonight into Sunday morning.

A widespread 1-3 inches of snow is expected, possibly locally higher up to 3-4in in the eastern UP. A change over to lake effect snow is expected in the NW wind snow belts Saturday afternoon, lingering into Sunday.
