Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/02
January 2, 2022
15 degrees this morning and snowing. Picked up another 3 inches of real fluffy snow last night here at my place. Got 6-7 inches the last couple of days. Its all fluffy lake effect but we`ll take it!
Groomer Dave M. did run the Falls trail #45 yesterday. There are a couple of deep water holes that are difficult to get around on a sled so he kept the gates closed (bummer). We`ll give it a couple more days and go into there again.
Mike C. is on his way to Pine Stump. This is a 12-14 hr. trip so he`ll call me in the morning to let me know how that went.
We have to get a little more snow to run the Point trails #452 and #453. We`ll probably run it by mid to end of this week if the weather keeps cooperating.
The South trail #8 is about the same. We`ll have to poke our noses in the swamp with 2 machines again before we dare to try and get it set.
All I got for today. Keep checking back. We are trying as hard as we can to get these trails open! Stay patient, we`ll get there. Keep praying the weather holds out!

TROUT LAKE - EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via The Rail House-Trout Lake MI >> Welp... we had to give it a shot but only made it a few miles before we turned around and headed back in. The wind makes it hard to tell exactly how much snow we have gotten in the last 24hrs but its pretty significant. Roads are NOT passable. Please don't try to go out until the county trucks are able to do a pass or 2. Widespread snow is beginning to taper off from west to east. Very heavy snow will continue across the central and east into the afternoon. Widespread wind gusts 35-45 mph are common this morning, with gusts 50-60 mph closer to Lake Superior contributing to near zero visibilities, and blowing and drifting snow.
In Marquette and Alger counties, M-28 between US-41 and M-94 is closed. Unless absolutely necessary, travel is strongly discouraged this morning. Stay safe! #miweather #munising #newberry

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A high impact winter storm is set to impact the U.P. tonight through tomorrow. Blizzard conditions are expected to develop, resulting in areas near zero visibility, especially near Lake Superior where gusts upwards of 60 mph are likely.
Important update: Trends in storm track have resulted in a southeast shift of the heaviest snowfall axis. Areas of 1 to 2 feet will be common from the high terrain of the central UP eastward along and north of M-28.
Strong northerly winds may result in downed trees and power outages. Please take extreme caution if you must travel over the next 24 hours. Stay safe! Check in on your neighbors!
