With the recent warmer temperatures, trail conditions have taken a hit and are in poor shape. We received freezing rain this morning and trails and roads are icy. Grooming will resume as soon as snowfall and colder temps allow. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for fresh snow soon and will continue to share updates along the way.
Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there is a logging operation near Turtle Lake Road and Douglas Lake Road – the logging trucks are using the trail as a road. The trails are passable, but they’re in poor shape. Proceed with caution in these areas.
If this winter is anything like last year, it’s going to be another epic one! Want to be ready? Get a free trail map delivered right to your mailbox and plan your adventure!
Check out a live view of trail # 7 here.
A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. – Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. – Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert. – Always ride on the right side of the trail. – Ride safe and ride sober.

Frederic is a cloudy ghost town so far this saturday morning. No one around and 31 degrees. Surprisingly we had about an inch and a half of pebbly sleet/snow yesterday. I only saw 2 groups of 3 sleds and one group of 2 all day yesterday. 3 of those sleds are pictured below and they were the only ones yesterday. Looks like we might get some snow the beginning of the week. The riders from yesterday were happy to be out but its hard out there. I met a youngster in town this morning from St Henry Ohio who is a regular rider. I didnt get his name. but its great to see young people wanting to ride. Thats about it for today, just waiting to see who stops by. So far no one. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> ~(Updated) Snowfall Forecast Sunrise Sunday-Sunrise Tuesday~ A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. Expect over a foot in most areas along the lakeshore before dropping as you get closer to the WI border. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskey~(Updated) Snowfall Forecast Sunrise Sunday-Sunrise Tuesday~

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> An impactful storm system will move into Michigan Sunday into early next week, with accumulating snow, strong winds, and blowing snow. The best chances for heavy snow will be across the Upper Peninsula, and the snow belts of lower Michigan. Rain will likely mix in for portions of lower Michigan during the day on Sunday before transitioning to snow during the Sunday night into Monday time frame. There is still uncertainty in snow amounts and the intensity of the storm system, so be sure to check back for updates! #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAn impactful storm system will move into Michigan Sunday into early next week, with accumulating snow, strong winds, and blowing snow. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> 30 years ago this would have been the start of hell week. GM, Chrysler, & Ford would all be closed up and thousands would flock north for winter break and fun in the snow. Well fast forward from that 30 years ago and its pretty darn lonely here now. Sleet coming down this morning and a marginal amount of snow. It used to be so much different with snow in Frederic compared to Grayling. Forcast isnt looking great for this week either. I did see a few sleds out on Christmas eve day and the pic below of the 3 of them over at the swamp. Nothing so far today and its 11 a..m and 29 degrees. So it looks like I will get a few t.v. shows in this week. Stop by and say Hi if you do make it up or just wake me up if you catch me taking a nap. youtu.be/dCwgYCMq11g?si=mey8eKZMbZyscZJg
