SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/28 12/28/25 5:30 PM update Using this to gauge our starting point for the incoming storm here in the Soo. The location for this measurement is just off of trail 8 as you head west out of the Soo, about 3 miles from downtown. Lake effect snow can and does vary widely, so we appreciate any snow reports tomorrow and on. We can hear the ice hitting the trees and hard surfaces currently. Businesses are closing early and some are already closing for tomorrow. It appears that it will switch to snow around 10pm tonight when temps also start to drop. PLEASE be safe. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> We know you'll pass by this post for snowfall today, but here on February 12th, 2026, it's quite a reflective moment to see just how far we have come this winter. Just a couple weeks ago it was lake effect snow every single day. Today, a light band of 1-3" near Munising is all we will need to write home about. We even tossed in some humor for those not in a designated snowfall zone. A couple slick spots will pop up along M-28 near Munising, and perhaps around Petoskey if a longer lake effect band happens to form, but this is more unlikely than likely. SAULT STE. Good morning all!
Yesterday and overnight Lane was out on the 472 to 480 loop, Dennis did the 49 and 494 loop, and the Bryan did the city trails and down 49 to 8 mile. The kinross crew did 49 up to 8 mile.
Everything is in great shape with the 4-5” of fresh snow that we received over the past couple of days.

Everything should be back in shape this morning, with the exception of 49 from 3 mile to 8 mile.
Warren was out last night on trail 8 from Raco to the Soo and it’s looking awesome!

“Great to see trails getting a lot of use . Spile Dam to the Soo 480/ 8 are back in shape, electric lines are flat and fast . Super Bowl kept traffic down and tbey should freeze real well 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾”
