Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/15

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 3/15

Well here comes the warmer weather 😥. Today’s high is forecasted to be 46 degrees and the rest of the week is similar.
Tim Lund is up riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula and is enjoying what are still amazing trails and very low traffic! Tim is staying at the Super 8 of Houghton Tim shared some photos and comments from his ride yesterday. Tim said, “Solo ride today, trails were amazing, flat & fast, from Houghton to Copper Harbor, with several stops, put almost 150 miles on.”

All reports from other riders were excellent also! Trails are in great condition heading into the warmup. Keweenaw Snowmobile Club has announced a reduced grooming schedule for the rest of the season due to the influx of above freezing temps. Grooming operations will return for weekends IF weather and conditions permit. Sadly, after this week we are definitely approaching the end of the 2021/22 season for many riders. Trails running on pavement, through towns etc will be bare if the forecast holds true. Road crossings and parking lots will also become bare. Does that mean there is not any riding left to be done…..NO! I’m sure we will still run into many of the other late season riders out there!

Thanks for sharing Tim! We hope your ride today is just as amazing as yesterday!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western Up Trail Reports…. 3/15

Sunday is definitely not looking good. From my past experience with a week of warm weather the trails will begin to show signs of spring. We still have a base close to 30" in the Toivola area but I can assure you there are spots that are a lot thinner. So after this coming weekend those thin spots will get sloppy and even have standing water in spots. I can only hope to get a couple rides in my new sled before the season ends.
You know me being honest but I hope I’m not accurate on this one.
☠Stretch

PS. I will not be grooming the rest of this season due to the weather.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Mixed precipitation, mainly of rain and snow, will spread west to east across the UP tonight into tomorrow morning. Pockets of freezing rain could also mix in at onset and lead to a light glaze of ice on roadways for the Tuesday morning commute. Heavy lake effect snow will then be reinvigorated with a secondary cold front Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across the N and NW wind snow belts. This will combine with northerly winds of 40 to 50 mph, resulting in blowing snow and near zero visibilities for the Wednesday morning commute. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaMixed precipitation, mainly of rain and snow, will spread west to east across the UP tonight into tomorrow morning. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> It's noon here on Monday, January 12th, and this week does present a couple instances of lake effect snow throughout the week. As a preliminary first call for the entire week, we've displayed current odds at areas receiving more than 4" of snow based on data from medium range models, and the WPC.
Most of the lake effect snow for the UP will fall between Tuesday and Thursday, where much of the higher elevation areas along Lake Superior currently have a greater than 50% chance at 4" of snow by the end of the work week. For much of the LP, lake effect snow will be confined primarily to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, especially AFTER Wednesday heading into Thursday. We are keeping an area of 1-20% across much of southern and central Michigan in the event wind shifts or passing clippers allow for extra accumulation, but the greatest chances for 4" will be in the far southwest corner, the thumb, or your typical lake effect zones across northern lower Michigan.
We have lake effect snow forecasts coming all week, along with other forecasts for other weather phenomena such as wind, rain, and perhaps mixed precipitation. Munising Area Trail Report – 03/15

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 3/15

Donnie finished his last run for the season and possibly our last run for the season depending on the weather. Our west end by Little Lake will be the quickest to degrade. We will monitor it and update if it gets too thin to safely ride. Our east end by Chatham will hold for a while and we will do what we can as the weather allows. Beware of icy conditions on corners. It was a good season. Keep riding as long as trail conditions and gas prices allow you too and we will watch the weather in hopes of extending your riding season. Ride right and ride safe!

TRAIL REPORT March 14, 2022

Trails are grooming out good but with the sugary snow they still get choppy throughout the day. A stretch of warm weather is coming so after tonight grooming operations may be put on hold. In the mean time get out and enjoy the snow and some great late season riding.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We were able to get out for a short while last night. Trail is groomed from 417 to Rumley. Due to operator constraints, we were only able to make the partial run. It is an unfortunate reality we face as a volunteer organization. Between work and family obligations, we sometimes have small gaps in the schedule. Now that we have the trail set, we will be training in a couple more operators to help fill those gaps. A couple of our out of state operators will be back in the seat also! We are like every other club that does grooming. We are always looking for operators. If you have contacted us before and we didn’t get back to you, please feel free to reach out again. We didn’t forget about you. We just didnt have an opportunity to get you into training before the season ended. If anyone is interested in grooming, please send us a message! We will see what we can do to get you up in the seat!
Our repairs seem to have been successful and the snow is falling again! It does look like we have a small warm up coming soon, but it doesn’t look like it will stick around for any time. Sounds like results varied last night with a couple spots needing multiple passes to get back into rideable shape. It will definitely take a couple grooms with the hard base and fresh snow to get everything back to flat again. Ride right and ride safe! #munising #snowphotos
