Traverse City Trail Report – 11/30

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club – 11/30

We have been out on the trails the past two days finishing up the signage and they are now complete. Thanks to Eric, David, Dave, John, Bob, Steve and Jeff for volunteering their time to get this done. Now all we need is cold weather and snow. We receive 9 inches earlier this week.

However, today we had sunshine and 46 degree temps and lost the majority of the snow. It’s time to do those dances. Hopefully we’ll have a great year!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
Discussion
Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> 1/26/26 - The song remains the same this week, as winter will leave us this pattern to lead us into more snow, thanks to the clipper parade. A few inches of snow or so are possible with each round, starting with a burst of snow tonight that will transition to NW to WNW flow lake effect. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Dangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Wind chills in the 20s below zero; some areas could feel as cold as -30F. This will be dangerous, as frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Keep a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded.
Gusty northwest winds plus continued powdery lake effect snow will lead to significant reductions in visibility with whiteouts at times through this afternoon, especially in open areas where snow can easily blow around. Dangerous travel conditions are expected, and wind chills well below zero will be even more problematic if you end up stranded on the road. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyDangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/01

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 12/01

2024 Season Opening Notes:

We need 1-3’ of snow depending on the trail and what lies beneath that snow- rock, sand, water/mud. Do those snow dances! We’re packed up and ready for when there is adequate snow!

Portage Lake Lift Bridge Opening will be weather dependent AND we await the return of the Ranger III from safety inspections in Duluth. There can be no crossing without the mat in place – safety, equipment, and bridge grates are among the reasons.
Trail 133 – Closed until snow levels are high enough, water holes are frozen, and property owners approve due to hunting.

Logging – We have active logging this year at the start of the season impacting Trail 124 and Trail 3 between Phoenix and Delaware finishing no later than 12/22. You can use trail 130 to bypass the trail 3 logging. Trail 122 will get you into Gay.
Grooming will begin when we have enough snow and the traffic dictates. Expect early season conditions with possible wet spots, tree limbs, and possibly gates closed if groomers haven’t been out yet.

HUGE news as well, Trail 3 was officially opened yesterday from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and will be available for use for the first time since the Fathers Day Flood of 2018.

Keep an eye out for updates!
Thanks,
The KSC Board
