Lake Gogebic Area Trail Report – 01/18

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> 01/18

Good morning. Bergland Area update for Friday evening 1/17/25. Groomer’s left the shed around 6pm. Temperatures at that time were 34°. The snow was slushy and not rolling through the drags. (We considered parking them, glad we didn’t!) Trails were in bad shape. Once we got through the corridor and to the actual trail head the snow got significantly easier to work with and by 9pm was starting to freeze in pretty tight!

We were shorthanded so 102, 1n, 13n and 13s were the only trails covered but we always try and focus on the heavier traveled trails. What was groomed last night didn’t turn out perfect due the significant temperature drop and wet snow but are far better than they were.

There’s lot’s of traffic!! Be safe and let it snow ❄❄❄ Gogebic Area Grooming

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update for this early Tuesday morning for 1-5-26..
102, 13 north of M28, 1n and 8w we're all groomed tonight.
We anticipate getting a full crew in tonight (Tuesday evening) to have our entire system covered.
The weather forecast is calling for a brief warmup but it won't impact the trail's, however it will loosen up snow and create bumps and again we'll have to play catch up to stay ahead.
We will also be attempting to get the entirety of 8w opened up this week as well.. Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos

Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/18

Gaylord Bureau –

January 18, 2025

8:20 a.m

The trails are holding steady in fair condition after yesterday’s brief warm up. The groomers are out this morning working on repairing the trails. Some areas may be a bit thin, but there’s still plenty to enjoy. Temperatures have dropped back down and it will be staying cold for a while. Enjoy the ride and stay safe!

Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord.

A few things to remember about groomers:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night.
– Have fun and stay safe!

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/18

20 degrees and quiet in Frederic. Sled traffic was slow all day yesterday with reports from people of not great trails and of course we have had no new snow. I shoveled snow against the sides of one of my rental houses last night. I had not been back there all winter and there was only about 4 inches of snow there. So that means everything that we have had this winter settled into that 4 inches and the ground wasnt even frozen. It supposed to be below zero the next few days and the north winds have picked up pretty good here this morning. I checked the 2 grayling hotels this morning and days inn had 6 trailers and ramada had 16. Thats the most I have seen there this winter and I hope those guys get a decent ride but its pretty sparse for snow around town. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via 9&10 News >> Another round of wintry weather Tuesday will deliver chances for mixed showers including freezing rain. The better timing for any ice will be Tuesday AM and south of M-32. Also watch for foggy conditions too.
Remember that 32° is the key temperature not only at the surface, but in the vertical. Any warmer and we trend more towards rain. Any colder and we trend more towards snow. Be mindful on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, parking lots, etc. traveling Tuesday AM.
We do trend slightly warmer mid-late week. More 30s if not a few low 40s before another rain/snow mix returns late Thursday into the weekend.

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Thank you to Kalkaska County Sand and Snow - KCSAS and Rick for contacting us when they heard of our breakdown. Within 24 hours of breakdown and recovery we had a track from the blade of the KCSAS machine to the blade of our machine!
Today the crew tackled putting the track on the machine and made quick work of it! Can’t thank our retired groomer/board member Doug for jumping into action to help out today! Mike, Phil, Doug, Benny, Rich, Pete and Tom were all hands on deck and we appreciate each of them and their efforts! The last 72 hours has been a great team effort by everyone that helped out. THANK YOU!
We’re monitoring the weather this week and will take grooming day by day until the end of the week. Looks like Thursday/Friday will be our worse days with temps at or near 40, but the crews are in order to get everything groomed for the weekend after temps drop back down. Trails right now are the best they have been for this time of year in many years!
Thank everyone for the kind words and support of our great volunteer’s and the hard work they have put in. Also thank you to the multiple people who have reached out or stopped by as we worked trailside asking if we needed a hand. #jordanvalley #petoskey #gaylord
