Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/22

33 degrees misty, drizzly and cloudy in downtown Frederic. Looks like its going to be another nasty non snow making week with 40s predicted again for this coming up weekend…….this is going to be a good week to follow the darkside adventures guys as there sure wont be any riding around here.

I just checked their tracer and they were just heading across the bridge at Sarnia so they still have a long ways to go to get the Gaspe Penninsula. There were only a few people that stopped in yesterday on their way back from the u.p. I stayed here till four and as I was leaving I hit the brakes to turn around and go back to the gas station as their was a guy there filling up his motorcycle. He said he had been out on a 40 mile ride. Not bad for Jan 21. Pic is below and so is a pic that I took this morning alongside my building of the grass…

Sledheads has a whole store full of goodies to sell to sledders with no sledders around. It sure is an uneasy feeling and then to top that off a guy that is a regular at our rental cottage was supposed to be here all week but cancelled out because he works for the government and its shut down so I am one of the little trickle down effect that loses money because of the shut down. Maybe someone will come along to buy a house today……This is gonna be another long week…….Thanks for checking in. Pete

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/22

Lake Gogebic Webcam

Lake Gogebic Webcam

With the warmer weather this past weekend and heavy traffic all clubs will be out getting things back in shape weather permitting. We have a Winter Storm Warning until midnight tonight. Anywhere from 2-5 inches in the far western part of Gogebic County to up to 8 inches from Watersmeet to Trout Creek. We will keep you updated on the outcome.

PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS. WE HAVE BEEN GETTING COMPLAINTS THAT SOME HAVE NOT BEEN STAYING ON TRAILS, RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN LOSE EASEMENT FOR OUR TRAIL SYSTEM SO PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:
01/22/2018

Warm weather allows snow to move quickly and easily so the clubs have a large task this week. Most trails have a hard base intact, except for the corners where they are swept and bermed up. Groomers will be out non-stop as temperatures remain below freezing to put the snow back into place and cut out all the bumps. Expect some thin areas and icy corners as you spot-on mentioned. Wakefield to Hurley was groomed this morning, groomer is coming into Ironwood right now. Trail 8 was groomed Saturday 12am-7am, trail 2 to Marenisco. Our club personally has never seen whoops that big on our trail system as we did on Saturday. Groomer runs that normally take 4 hours took 7. That’s how much more work warm temps cause us!

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMER REPORT:
Jan 19 Update no new report this morning.

Groomers were out in full force last week with the cold temperatures. This weekend, the temperatures are supposed to get to the high of 43 degrees on Friday and 32 degrees on Saturday. This makes it difficult to groom at these temperatures. We will be grooming at night when the temperatures get below freezing to set up the trails. You may get a smooth trail in the morning, but expect bumps during the afternoon hours. Hope everyone has a good weekend and stay safe while riding the trails. And remember to stay on your side of the trail and stop for stop signs.

U.P. THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET GROOMERS REPORT:
Groomer Report 1/22/2017

Groomers are in the barn waiting for the snowstorm to hit depending on snow amounts we will run tonight or tomorrow.
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet – to the 107 – fair but thin in areas
Trail 3 north of trail 2 to bond falls – fair thin areas
Trail 3 north of Bond falls – good
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet- fair with thin areas
Trail 13 south of trail 2 – fair

THINK SNOW!

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUB LOSING EASEMENT OF THAT TRAIL AND YOU POSSIBLE GETTING A TICKET…
