Newberry Trail Report – 01/10

Jan. 10 2019

Newberry area and north received 8 inches to 12 inches of snow yesterday. All of our trails have wet areas so please be careful due to the warm temperatures. The trail between CR 500 and the Tahquamenon Falls will not be groomed until we get colder temperatures to freeze the swamp.

Trail #9 Good condition.

Trail #45 Fair condition. This trail is groomed to County Road 500. Please be careful between M-123 and Skyline Road the road was graded this past fall and it has a crown in the middle that is causing problems for the groomer drivers until we get more snow. There is drop off on each side of the grade.

Trail #2/9 Good condition but there is still open water holes on this trail.

There is a car parked in our staging area ( by the railroad tracks in Newberry) since last weekend that is in the way for plowing and for trucks and trailers to park this weekend. If anyone knows who this car belongs please call the TASA barn at 906-293-3063 and leave a message

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/10

No new snow overnight in Frederic, we have had a total of about 6 inches in the past couple of days in both Grayling and Frederic and I think a little more than that towards Mancelona and Elmira.

On the other hand I hear up towards Shingleton and Grand Marais they have had a couple feet this week. All the snow around here has been lake effect. While it looks nice out there its just fluffy stuff.

My opinion is that people are tired of waiting and going to ride our area this weekend anyways. I have seen a few sleds out and about, just keep in mind its hard and icy underneath. The trail crossing just north of the high school was nice and white when I looked at it on the way up here this morning. 2 pics this morning sent to me from different readers over near Manistee lake and the groomer one was on trail 76. It all we have so that’s the best we can do.

Just be careful on the icy conditions. Death number four that I am aware of has happened out there so Please ride safely. Thanks for checking in. Pete
