Ontonagon Trail Report – 02/01

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP​ –

Trail update:

Finally 906 style snow!!

Trails groomed yesterday:

Trail #12 from Ontonagon to Greenland.
Trail #137 from Ontonagon to Trail 13.
Trail #13 from Trail 137 to Trail 101.
Trail #101 from Trail 13 to Trail 12.

Trails to be done today/tonight:

Trail #12 from Ontonagon to Greenland.
Trail #12 from Ontonagon to White Pine.
Trail #1 from White Pine to Lake of the Clouds.
Trail #11N from Lake Superior to Trail #102.

Please use the Victoria Road detour around Rock Hill just west of Rockland. We are going to attempt to repair that mile of trail Monday.

All trails are in very good condition.

The Groomer Tracker transponder on our Pisten Bully is not working. We are trying to fix it and will let you know when it’s done.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/01

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY reports temps for this weekend will be in the 20’s Saturday and a high of 35 Sunday with possible freezing rain on Sunday. Groomers are out daily and especially at night. Trails are in incredible shape. Remember if you see the groomers please pull to the side so the groomers can do their job.

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is excellent Please do not ride on side walks near Holiday and try to keep noise down in town.
Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is very good. PLEASE REMEBER TO CROSS US HWY 2 IN THE CORRECT LANE OF TRAVEL, DO NOT BLOCK HWY TURN LANES!

Wakefield to Marenisco is excellent. There is logging 3 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Logging trucks have the right away so please give them the right of way.

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is excellent and groomed daily. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI)is excellent. This is their most scenic trail and a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

Trail 11S is in very good condition.. It is groomed all the way to the WI line. This 17 mile long trail has 2 stop signs and is a wilderness tour. The southern 3 miles get thinner, but remains in good condition.

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

THE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Trail Conditions: Cold temps, good snowfall and great grooming have made for very good to excellent conditions.
Trail 13: Good to excellent.
Trail 1 to Presque is in good condition and recently groomed.
Trail 1 N/Corridor 8: is excellent.
Trail 102 in excellent condition.
Trail 8 East excellent to good once you hit Ewen.
Trail 8 West excellent.

WATERSMEET U.P. THUNDER RIDERS report we are grooming daily.

Trail 2 west of Watersmeet – Good condition
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet- Good condition, a few thin areas
Trail 13 south to Cisco Chain- Good condition
Trail 3 south to Land O’Lakes- good/fair condition. There is lots of traffic on this trail and it’s very hard to keep smooth, use caution on bridges and approaches.
Trail 3 north to Paulding/Bond Falls/Bruce Crossing- Good condition, thin icy corners

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
