Ontonagon / Porcupine Mountains Snow Report
If this tells you anything about conditions right now — Jamis just got back from a ride and said, “Dad, that’s the best trails I’ve ever ridden on.”
And honestly? He’s not wrong.
Snow conditions remain at an epic level across the Ontonagon and Porcupine Mountains area. We haven’t had fresh snow in a few days, but temperatures have stayed cold enough to lock everything in. The base is solid, the trails are holding together beautifully, and grooming has them riding smooth and fast.
There’s a slight warm-up in the forecast, but don’t let that scare you. It’s not significant enough to impact the snow base in any meaningful way. The foundation we have is strong, and conditions should remain excellent.
If you’ve been waiting for the right time to ride… this is it.

Freezing rain accumulations of a light glaze to a tenth of an inch and snow accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible. Our Groomer's run 7 day's a week. Circumstances do come up where we anticipate going one direction and the exact opposite happens which result's in a section not being covered. For that we apologize, but we always recover quickly!
They're calling for warmer temps this week but really shouldn't impact grooming with temp's below freezing during evening hour's.
Do your snow dance. We'd welcome some fresh ❄️ but everything is laying down nicely and trail's are in great shape.

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> TRAIL REPORT - Sorry for the delay, but Tractor Mac was out fixing trail already this AM. The cold snap has set up the trails nicely, but some of the moguls were extremely hard and difficult to cut down last night. All trails except Trail 12 from the 137 junction to Greenland were groomed and are in good to excellent condition.

In addition, slick roadways are possible in the wake of a round of patchy freezing drizzle this past night. This may lead to hazardous travel for the morning commute. 1s or Ethelwood Grade is open for the remainder of the Snowmobile season.
We took a machine down today to make sure all obstacles were clear to the turnaround and Marenisco crew did the same.

We love what we do! We could certainly use some more operators to help us do it......
On that point, we have some new experienced help as Cody took his first run for NCSC last night! He, Chad and Tractor Mac hit all of our trails with the exception of Trail #12 from Ontonagon to Greenland.
We have had heavy traffic for a Wednesday and Thursday with warmer conditions. Trails are holding up well but deteriorate quickly.
