Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/15
Gaylord Bureau – January 15, 2026 9:45 a.m. We had a warm up last week and lost some of our snow but managed to keep most of our solid base. Trails are currently in fair condition with some icy and thin patches. We’re expecting a few inches of fresh snow tomorrow and the groomers plan on getting out to smooth the trails after 5:00 p.m. Regular grooming is expected to start back up on Saturday and there is the chance for daily accumulation for the next week. Be safe out there and have fun! Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in several locations. The newest locations are around Van Tyle and North Townline Road (Gaylord) and the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake. Logging is also taking place on trail #4 along the powerline that crosses Evergreen Drive and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to smooth the trails out in these areas. It was nice and cold last night at 5 degrees and its supposed to stay cold with a small amount of snow the next few days. There were some sleds out and about yesterday and I havent seen any today. Still very icy out there and I expect that to stay so be careful. I have cones outside in my drive because its so icy even though I have thrown salt all around out there. Still some riders out there, I see one unloading over at the swamp. Pic below is a guy I saw at the gas station yesterday afternoon and he told me he had a great ride from lakes of the north down to frederic, trail 4 to 7 . At least a few riders still holding out for the end. Trail crossings I looked at this morning still pretty nice and white. That ice underneath is saving things but with more warmth coming itwill be going away.Like I have said many times I have seen way worse conditions than this before. Thanks for checking in. The warmth will help melt and leave some lube for those that are adventureous enough to get a ride in. My sled is buried in the corner right now but I know I could get a good ride in if I was a bit more ambitious. Ground or should I say ice is still rock hard and it is now 33 degrees. I would think that once things start melting that if you were here you could still get in a ride. Trail crossings I looked at on the way up here are still pretty white. I looked at the sledview.com camera and it looks bright white with still no snirt and 12 inches showing on his depth guage. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Well its up to 25 degrees and while its still nice and white out there its rock hard and like riding on broken concrete. I bet I had about a dozen riders ask for ice scratchers yesterday. Riders also told me they saw several sleds pulled off and trying to cool things down. I have seen a few sleds out already this morning. Riding would get better if the sun melts a little on top so people have lube. So northern michigan is pretty much a big rough skating rink right now. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
