Sledheads of Frederic – 1/11

SNOW DAY!! Those are the words any school kid and snowmobiler wait to hear. Many, many schools closed thruout northern Michigan this morning. While there was only maybe an inch of new snow in Grayling since yesterday there is more like 5 or 6 here in Frederic, nice fresh powder and I am proud to say that I got to ride in it. I went for my first ride of the season yesterday, up to starvation lake and then on down to Dingmans….Nice ride but still some thin spots in some of the trails.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/11

It’s as pretty as a picture outside with all our new snow. Temps are on the cold side with our highs only in the single digits for daytime highs and below zero at night. This will with firming up all our wet spots. Things are improving.

The former Gogebic Range Trail Authority now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting: Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood is groomed and is in good to very good condition.
Trail 2 from Bessemer to Wakefield is in good condition.
Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marinesco is in poor to fair condition be prepared for wet spots. Please ride with caution.
Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula is groomed and is in good condition.
Trail 160 is in very poor shape with lots of wet and rough areas, please ride with extreme caution.

All of our trails are in early season condition so please ride with extreme caution as you may come across very wet and rough areas.
Reminder that trail 11 north and 11 south are closed for this winter season. The section of trail from 11N to 11 up to trail 102 is not being groomed due to the closure of 11N.

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS, RIDING ON A UNMARKED TRAIL MAY RESULT IN THE CLUB LOOSING EASEMENT TO THE PROPERTY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

The Lake Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting:
With approx. 8 – 10-inches of new snow since Saturday and some extremely cold temperatures arriving during the early Sunday hours we’re getting set up for much improved trail conditions. Groomers are out on most of the trails – still doing some filling in any remaining wet areas – and should be over all trails by Tuesday. We’ve got more extreme cold through most of this week with additional snow amounts in the forecast for each day. Tuesday is calling for the most snowfall with upwards of 8-inches. This said, caution should still be used on all trails as conditions will probably run from poor to fair to good, but all trails will have some trouble spots on them for awhile.

Please check locally for lake conditions. It is changing hourly. We suggest strongly to stay OFF THE LAKE.

Watersmeet Groomers are reporting:
The groomers are in the barn waiting for more snow. Cold temps and snow are in the forecast
Trails are rideable; there are some wet spots so use caution.
