Harbor Springs Area Trail Report – 02/01

HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club – 02/01

All of our trails were groomed last night, the snow gets thin north of Carp Lake and there are a few spots in the woods that are getting dirty. Overall they are in good shape! The sun is out but it’s only about 3 degrees, should be a great day for riding.
We will have groomers out again tonight & Sunday!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club >> We’ve lost a lot of snow over the last few days, on Tuesday we started out with 15” in Carp Lake, 11” in Stutsmanville & 9” in Southern Harbor Springs. Today we are sitting at about 5” in Carp Lake, 4” in Stutsmanville and Southern Harbor Springs.
Reports are saying that the grade still has rideable snow other than in front of the Pellston Airport & most of the areas in the woods held snow but the water holes are opened back up. Grooming is paused until we receive more snow. #harborsprings #petoskey

We did get the broken groomer off of the trail yesterday. It took us all day. Nothing ever goes as planned. It was very frustrating dealing with all of the snowmobiles not listening to us. We were out there telling people the trail is blocked and to turn around and wait off of the trail. Nope, they just ride up to the back of an excavator pulling a machine with its boom taking out tree branches. They pull off barely to the side where an excavator is on ice pulling 13k lbs. of dead weight inches from them. Clueless……..

It was a long frustrating day.
We have one groomer running. 3 other neighbor clubs are covering trails for us.
Schoolcraft County Motorized Trails Association
Schoolcraft is covering 8N of Shingleton along with our John Deere.
TNT Trenary Northern Trails
TNT is cover quite a bit for us. They are definitely going above and beyond on he West side.
Big Bay De Noc Snowmobile Club (Rapid River)
https://misorva.org/trail…/big-bay-de-noc-snowmobile-club/
Big Bay De Noc is covering Trail 7 South up to the Buckhorn.
Monday both John Deere and Prinoth mechanics will be here.
Prinoth may be here Sunday to get started.
We hope to have all back up and running this Tuesday.

GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town.
