Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 12/26

Greetings Would Be Sledders,

The here and now is not looking all that great and the there and later depends on what’s left after the Sun does it’s job today and how hard of a freeze we have. There’s some snow in the forecast for the week but the probability of it happening is pretty low.

There are two segments of our trails that will require more than a good freeze to get them back in decent shape.

Our part of trail #7 south of M-72 is not ride-able, also trail # 79 which runs West of and parallel to Old-27 had some loggers that felt that it would be okay to plow the trail down to dirt for about 3/4 of a mile. To add insult to injury they created about a 2′ wall along the side of the trail so when a sled is approaching a groomer or any other vehicle, the sleds can’t get by.

I will remedy that problem by blading out some escape holes when we get back to grooming. The lack of snow on that stretch will have to wait for Ma Nature

I will take another extensive road trip in the morning and see what’s left and shoot out another quick update. Right now I’m calling the whole mess not ride-able to poor.

We just can’t seem to catch a break on this week for some reason.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

Ontonagon Trail Report – Scott’s Superior Inn – 12/26

Even though we did get some warmer temps, and about 2″ of sleet last night our trails held up pretty well, we did not get that full blown rain so that helped. Temps are falling all week, and they are calling for snow every day, won’t take a lot of fresh snow to get our trails back into shape. We still have lots of openings including lakefront chalets.

Remember !! if you got good snow by you we will have a lot more and a lot less traffic!

DECEMBER 17

WE got 12-18′ of snow on the ground, and we have started grooming, there are still a few wet spots to freeze up, but for the most part the trails are in pretty decent shape, Trail#12 going west out of Ontonagon has not been groomed completely cause a land owner still hasn’t opened his gate(right on edge of airport), suppose to do it this weekend, calling for heavy snow all weekend, and very cold temps. we have lots of openings in our resort including lakefront chalets that sleep up to 8, great time to come up.
