Gaylord Area Trail Report – 03/31

Gaylord Bureau –

March 29, 2026

9:15 a.m.

**Just a few days left to ride! Please remember that designated snowmobile trails are open through March 31.**

Temperatures are supposed to stay warm for the next few days, so expect trail conditions to change quite a bit as the snow melts. It will be too warm for any additional grooming. Trail 7 North is currently in good shape heading north and south. Lakes of the North is also in good shape as of Sumday morning. The trails toward Johannesburg are in poor shape with water on the trail.

Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in some locations. Logging is taking place on the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to keep the trails smooth in these areas.

Check out a live view of trail # 7 here.

A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.
– Ride safe and ride sober.

Sledheads of Frederic – 03/31

That’s a Wrap on the 25-26 Sled Season – Well here we are up to March 31, 2026 and the end of the season with more snow that we have seen in a long , long time. Still alot to melt off here in Frederic, Piles were huge and so very rock hard its still gonna take them a while to melt down. The good thing about all the snow was that it spread the riders out all thru the state which made for a much safer season. Even with that there were still 12 deaths with only 4 in the lower and the rest in the u.p. In looking at the sledview camera north of Gayord the trail is still covered with snow.

All pics below here took about noon in Frederic today. We had alot of rain overnight and its still coming on and off now. A couple things I am looking for this summer are a nice newer touring sled so maybe next year I can go on the Darkside Adventures ride so I need something newer with a big windshield and comfy. Also a side by side Polaris Ranger. Give me a call if you have something for sale like that. Thank you to all that came in to see me this past season. I really thought we were going to get a full 16 week season but it didnt happen, but stil pretty darn good. Next season will my 30th season in here……boy how time flies when your having fun. Thanks for checking in and if I will probably have only a few posts now until fall. I dont usually put my open sign on in the summer but if my truck or car is here stop on in. My summer hours are open when I’m here and closed when I’m not. Pete

How do these totals compare to last 10-15 years? Seems like snowiest since 2014?
