Indian River Trail Report – 12/23

We all awoke to an interesting weather situation outside this morning. Huge, wet snowflakes (almost in clumps of small balls) were falling everywhere. It sure was a sight to see. There are about 2 inches of this fresh, slushy snow that’s come down. It’s stopped for the moment but the radar shows more precipitation will cover us through the day.

The million-dollar question is whether it will fall as snow or rain or somewhere in-between! Forecasters say we could hit 35 today and right now we’re around 33. If we can get snow instead of rain the next couple days could bring some accumulation. Could it be a Christmas present from Mother Nature for our patience? Only time will tell. Come on back here in the morning and we’ll let you know how conditions are developing.

If you’re interested in supporting local grooming efforts, visit www.justgroomit.org for details on joining the Indian River Snowmobile Grooming club with a membership donation. We have hats and t-shirts (short & long sleeve) for sale too–they make great holiday gifts! Thank you–

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/22

Looks like we will be dealing with temps in the low 30’s until Friday. After Friday I temps will drop to the teens during the day and only single digits at night. With these temps the weekend will be a bit more promising for riding. We will keep you updated.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report:
Trails 2,8 and 160 all have been groomed. Trail 2 and 8 are in good condition. On Trail 160 the last three miles of the trail has little snow and mud. Trail 11N has not been groomed. Groomers will get to this when the weather permits. There is running water in the creeks and the swamps are still open so PLEASE USE CAUTION IF YOU PLAN TO RIDE.
Trail 11 south will be closed for the season due to logging.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
Conditions are once again too warm for grooming, at least during the daytime hours. We did get an additional 2 – 3 inches of new snow over last night and more is expected this week along with much colder temperatures just in time for the weekend.

Watch for a change on trail 1 South from Rd. 8800 to Marenisco soon. We’ve been encountering more water problems in this area and hope to reroute…just watch for signs.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Groomers are out and reporting all trails are groomed. Conditions are fair to good with some wet spots but you are able to get around these problem areas. Please ride with caution..

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
