ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> TRAIL REPORT - Well, SledHeads, the weather forecast has been a moving target every day, but the reality is Mother Nature is throwing much warmer weather at us. We are evaluating grooming potential daily, but if the temps are above 31 degrees, the snow just doesn't turn in the drag. There is still tons of snow and trails are still ridable, it will just be slushy and bumpy. #ontonagon #westernup#snowphotosTRAIL REPORT - Well, SledHeads, the weather forecast has been a moving target every day, but the reality is Mother Nature is throwing much warmer weather at us. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns. #westernup... See MoreSee Less

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update for 3-3-26.. Something is better than nothing right?! Had a Groomer run up 1n to White Pine to check out conditions. He's reported back everything was looking good! However, that will be the last Groom until we see conditions change in our favor. We might lose some trail's to this warmup but the base is strong and we believe another week or 2 is possible on certain sections of our trail system. As of now, everything is good but expect slush by mid day and getting into town difficult. Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic#westernupBergland Area Groomer's update for 3-3-26.. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> Well… Mother Nature has decided to remind us that it is technically March. 😅 We’ve got a warm-up rolling in for the next week, which means snowmobile conditions are going to take a little vacation. Trails may get soft, grooming windows shrink, and things might look a bit sad for a few days. BUT — before anyone starts pushing their sled to the back of the garage and whispering goodbye — relax. We have SO much snow up here that this warm spell isn’t ending the season… it’s just a minor plot twist. Cooler weather is already lining up right behind it, and when this warm-up moves along, chances are the U.P. will be one of the only places left where you can still ride. Translation: don’t put those sleds in storage yet. Some excellent late-season riding days are still very much on the menu. Think of this as a brief intermission — not the end of the show. Stay tuned for updates, ride smart, and we’ll see you back on the trails soon! #ontonagon #westernupWell… Mother Nature has decided to remind us that it is technically March. 😅

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update for 3-1-26. Sound's like most clubs in the U.P. are experiencing the same thing. Temp's got into the mid to upper 40's on Friday and that evening dropped into the lower teen's locking everything in tight! (Frustrating when you aren't even able to cut down a berm back to the inside of the trail). We have plenty of snow and the trail's are holding up but the forecast for this week looks like we'll see some more 40° days. We aren't waving the white flag yet, but that will most likely mean limited grooming on certain days. Think positive and do your snow dance! The weather through March is very unpredictable and could completely change 3 days from now. The picture of -4 was around 11:30 in between Bergland and Ewen on trail 8. Groomer Report
Wednesday 3/18/2020 9:00 am CST Overall Story: Poor
Trails are hazardous with slush ponds and pools as well as “rotting snow bridges” as the Hurley White Thunder Riders put it so well. We have not groomed in 10 days. Brushing activities have been on-going in wet areas to use the snow pack while we can. Riding is limited, most clubs except Keweenaw Snow Trails has quit grooming. Last weekend a neighboring club was swallowed by a hidden slush lake under the snow. There is fresh snow being called for and awfully enough rain for 12 hours before it. We will be out riding evaluating trails to see what can be groomed, if anything.
WARNINGS AND NOTICES: We are begging riders to ride off trail legally as there are 1-million acres of public land east of Wakefield to off trail ride on – please only ride legal areas! The Ottawa National Forest is 990,000 acres and much of it open to cross-country riding (no trail/road) if there is 6″ or more of snow. Several restricted areas, contact the forest for further information. CLICK THIS LINK FOR MAPS, scroll down to motor vehicle use maps.
