SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/07
Good morning!
Just a heads up that we have a machine down in the Bay Mills/Raco area.
The Pisten Bully needs a new fan and a few other repairs and the parts are finally coming in.
Luckily, everything is in pretty good shape out there and mid week riding is minimal.
It may be Friday morning before we can get it back out there. We appreciate you’re patience as we make these necessary repairs ahead of the weekend!
Thank you!

***quick update!** On the return trip, the groomer started to bust through the beaver pond😟 However, Steve was able to get out of it without sinking the machine or drag. Whew! So, safe to say this will be our last groom in that section until temps drop way down. However, it’s 1000 times better than it was. Until further notice, the section from Devils Hill (south of 12 mile) to about a 1/2 mile south of the pond will not be groomed again. We will continue to groom the ready of 49 in it’s entirety as long as we can**£
Good evening! Facebook will not allow me to post multiple videos in one post so I’m going to drop the longer videos in the comments.
Steve was able to successfully get through trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross in its entirety tonight! Some tense moments for sure as he made his way over some deep water areas. Pete was on stand by and captured the footage as he made his way down.
It has been really hard on all of us to no be able to have this trail fully open. This is the latest I ever recall the 1st groom of the full trail. We appreciate your patience, especially our locals that use this trail as a main artery to and from town from the south. We cannot wait to ask the DNR to officially open it tomorrow!
Thank you Steve for being the one to give it a go! And thank you Pete for being there and brining is the footage! Full videos in the comments!
I can now say that our trails are ALL in good to excellent condition!🙌🏼❄️🙌🏼❄️

They definitely encountered some low hanging branches, but no major downed trees and they were surprised how well the trails have held up! SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/05
Good evening! A much different scene tonight from just 24 hours ago.
Pete was out on the city trails tonight and shared this report- “Pretty quiet night on the city trails tonight. Saw 2 sleds, and a couple tracks on my return trip. Everything groomed really well. The water holes with the hay behind Kewadin are still holding up great. The trail along the airport has some light drifting. The wooded sections of the trails have some DEEP moguls that I couldn’t get out without dragging too deep. It’s to be expected from the amount of high energy riders we had in town this past weekend.
Overall a nice relaxing groom, much calmer than yesterdays war zone on trail 8………..
Tomorrow I’ll probably head out on my sled to watch Steve go down 49 and groom the trail behind the county building in the section we have not been able to groom yet. Reminder for riders to please try and avoid spinning tracks on a fresh groom, it destroys our work. Saw a lot of track spinning on my way back from Kewadin.
Have a good night!”
🚨🚨He also saw SXS tracks on the trail from the tunnel to the I500 track. That is NOT a multi use trail. That is an UNSAFE situation. That trail is only 12’ wide and a SXS with tracks is more than half the trail width.🚨🚨
Law enforcement is aware of the issues we are having with SxSs. We’ve given fair warning and had our partners in the ORV community spread the word and yet it continues. They’ll have to deal with the consequences when they are caught. In the meantime, always be prepared for the unexpected.
Big thanks again to Pete for stepping up BIG TIME this week and weekend and to all of our volunteers for their extra hard work for race week!
More snow tomorrow and then a slight warm up that won’t hurt us much. We’ll keep updating! ❄️❄️❄️
