Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/22

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – 02/22

The Lake Gogebic Area has received 6-8” of new snow over the past 2-3 days and it has really helped out tremendously on our trails. The new snow mixed with what we had, and it set up nicely with the cold temperatures at night. Trails in the Lake Gogebic Area reported to be in good to very good condition and groomer Dave has reported that the South end of the Lake and Marenisco are in excellent condition! We are forecasted to receive about 8” over the next 36 hours and if that happens groomers will be out in force to get all the trails set but then we should be in excellent condition!

The only challenge area is the corridor above Timberline Sports which receives the most traffic as it is a connector to major trails. New snow will certainly help that corridor out!

Here’s the skinny from our groomers:

• Trail 102: was groomed this morning!
• Trail 8 west – will have a groomer going down tonight and they will check to see what utility company has got accomplished and will report tomorrow on status that that trail opening.
• Trail 8 East: will be groomed tonight.
• 13 North: will be groomed tonight.
• 1 south – grooming today and will also be grooming the ditch line.

So far this season we have received over 170” of snow – and winter is far from over! Come on us and ride – we’ve got the best conditions around! Thanks to all of you who visit and support our area and our businesses, and thanks to all who work hard to make the Lake Gogebic Area one of the very best snowmobile destinations in the country!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Today, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. Fog returns tonight, though the weather remains quiet until a system passes south of the UP Thursday afternoon, bringing a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow to the UP, though the heaviest rain will fall along the Lake Michigan shores. Once this round of precip wraps up Friday afternoon, attention then turns to the potential for weekend snowfall, though plenty of scenarios are still possible, so those with weekend plans sensitive to winter weather should monitor the forecast. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaToday, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> 🔥 Trail No. 12 is BACK! 🔥
Riders who know the Ontonagon area remember the pain of the west-side reroute the last couple years… but the original Trail 12 heading west out of Ontonagon is open and riding better than ever! Flat, smooth, and fast. Of course, when I went out yesterday, I couldn’t help but do a little Boondocking down the forest roads, but that’s a post for another time 😉
If you’re riding the western UP, Scott’s Superior Inn & Cabins sits right on Trail 12 — easy access, warm rooms, and a complimentary hot breakfast to fuel the next ride. 🛷❄️
See you on the trail! #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update for this early Tuesday morning for 1-5-26..
102, 13 north of M28, 1n and 8w we're all groomed tonight.
We anticipate getting a full crew in tonight (Tuesday evening) to have our entire system covered.
The weather forecast is calling for a brief warmup but it won't impact the trail's, however it will loosen up snow and create bumps and again we'll have to play catch up to stay ahead.
We will also be attempting to get the entirety of 8w opened up this week as well.. Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos

Jordan Valley Trail Report – 02/22

Trails.Snow.Grooming update

We’ve received 4-6” recently and slated to get 6-12” more depending on the weather person you believe. At this point we plan to groom tomorrow (Thursday) and access from there. Reminder we’ve had a lot of melt and rain. You may encounter some soft spots and lots of ice under the snow, adjust your riding to the conditions. The little bit of recon we’ve done in the past week trails before this snow had 0-4” depending where you are on the trail system and a lot of rough frozen ice due to the terrain. Stay tuned for more updates through the weekend. It’s going to take a good amount of snow to bring trails back into shape but our volunteers will do what they can. We need more than 12” of fluffy Lake effect to get trails in decent shape, but they will be rideable while it lasts.

Have a safe weekend. Ride right, ride safe and ride sober

Monday was epic for us. Rode from Indian River to Cheboygan, east for lunch at the Bluffs, on to millersburg, then back. Not a mogul the whole trip and only met one sled before lunch.

WEATHER UPDATE via 9&10 News >> Another round of wintry weather Tuesday will deliver chances for mixed showers including freezing rain. The better timing for any ice will be Tuesday AM and south of M-32. Also watch for foggy conditions too.
Remember that 32° is the key temperature not only at the surface, but in the vertical. Any warmer and we trend more towards rain. Any colder and we trend more towards snow. Be mindful on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, parking lots, etc. traveling Tuesday AM.
We do trend slightly warmer mid-late week. More 30s if not a few low 40s before another rain/snow mix returns late Thursday into the weekend.

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Thank you to Kalkaska County Sand and Snow - KCSAS and Rick for contacting us when they heard of our breakdown. Within 24 hours of breakdown and recovery we had a track from the blade of the KCSAS machine to the blade of our machine!
Today the crew tackled putting the track on the machine and made quick work of it! Can’t thank our retired groomer/board member Doug for jumping into action to help out today! Mike, Phil, Doug, Benny, Rich, Pete and Tom were all hands on deck and we appreciate each of them and their efforts! The last 72 hours has been a great team effort by everyone that helped out. THANK YOU!
We’re monitoring the weather this week and will take grooming day by day until the end of the week. Looks like Thursday/Friday will be our worse days with temps at or near 40, but the crews are in order to get everything groomed for the weekend after temps drop back down. Trails right now are the best they have been for this time of year in many years!
Thank everyone for the kind words and support of our great volunteer’s and the hard work they have put in. Also thank you to the multiple people who have reached out or stopped by as we worked trailside asking if we needed a hand. #jordanvalley #petoskey #gaylord
