Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/01

26 degrees this morning and cloudy. Kinda glad to say goodby to February, it wasn`t very kind to us sno-mo people. I want to correct something from yesterdays report. I said we got about 6" of snow but it was closer to 8" if not a touch more! The weather guessers are calling for another couple inches tonight and "they" are watching a big storm coming for Friday….hmmmm. The sun did come out yesterday and that gave the road commission a good chance to scrape down all the side roads…..I HATE the road commission!!!! Now, on to the trails….
I ran the South trail #8 yesterday and its in the best shape I think I`ve seen it all season, even the swamp south of town was good.
Groomer Mike H. ran the Falls trail #45 and gave me his own rating I still can`t print but lets say smooth as glass.
Groomer Keith hit the Pine Stump trail #8 also but I haven`t heard from him. I do know it is in great shape too though.
If this storm comes the trails will be epic for the weekend, if it doesn`t hit us they will still be pretty darn good but the side roads will be tough.
COME ON UP!!!!! You never know if this will be your last chance.

SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association >> Well, that was one heck of a storm we got yesterday! We currently have two machines heading to the bear trap to try and get that back into shape. We will be working on 440 also today. It’s going to take us a few days to get all the trails cleared. If your out riding today be careful out there lots of snow drifts. If you see a tree down and you can help move it please lend a hand we can use all the help we can get. #seney #newberry
GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> The forecast did not disappoint. Lots of wind and snow. It will take a few days to get the trails cleaned up. Ride with caution as there are trees down and big drifts. 2 drivers are headed east to groom and clean up. 2 drivers will be heading west to groom and clean up shortly

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> The cool thing about this video is when I left to groom 9 Sunday night, we were still praying for the snow to hit, and I was just working on trail repair, before I got back from this 16hr 91.5 mile run, THIS is what I was working with!!
16 hours included cutting two downed 12-14" pines trees completely across and many other smaller and wind blown debris, lots of stops.
I left green ribbons hanging in the spots I cut the two pines, worried about what I may have missed under the snow. Just careful. #newberry #snowphotos

Things are slightly calmer then yesterday. Estimates for snowfall are north of 18 inches of fluff but it was hard to tell will all the drifting.
Clubs are getting back onto the trails. Most in the area have started grooming again but caution to watch for down trees and drifts for the next couple of days.
1 report comming in from Grand Marais saying there is a tree across 8 halfway to Pine Stump.
Paradise is out working on knocking drifts down on 9 out in Siberia along with opening up 452/453. Tomorrow thwy plan on sending two groomers down 45 to see if they can work some magic.
We are currently under another winter storm watch with totals saying around 7 inches to fall by tomorrow. So far its looking like an epic week.

EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via Mackinac County Snowmobile Association >> Tuesday December 30
We really got the snow yeaterday. Cut river area seemed to be the winner with claims to 36 inches. St ignace received a foot or more and Trout lake closer to 2ft. With all that snow comes the fun stuff. We did pan what we could last night but had to turn around and could not make it into St ignace do to down trees. We will need a few days to get this storm cleaned up. It is passable to St Ignace by sled but ungroomed until clean up is done. So much snow came at once it will take several passes to get a good hard base again so please be patient with us for a few days while we get things in order. Use extreme caution while riding in our area as there still is branches in the trail. We will update as soon as conditions change. Thank you #soo #straitsarea #newberry #snowphotos
