Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/07

March 7, 2023

30 degrees this morning under a bright blue sky. The forecast for the next few days says sunny and around 40….not good folks. The trails are going fast, here`s what I got for ya….

I ran the South trail #8 yesterday and will call it good in some spots and poor in others. Seems the further south I got the better snow conditions got. From town to about 3 miles south of the river mouth was ugly but from then on not too bad. I did skip the swamp, I`m thinking we will close the gates to it in the next couple days. I`m also thinking we are done grooming south unless we get a bunch of snow.

Groomer Scott ran the Falls trail #45 last night and told me it still is in decent shape but the wet areas are starting to break up. The next few sunny days are not gonna help that.
The Pine Stump trail #8 is holding up OK but Siberia has a lot of gravel in it now and the dirt roads are down to mud. It will be groomed today.

The Point trails #452 & #453 are probably in the best shape. The far north loop won`t take much sun to cook the snow off of that tho. They will also be groomed today.

Soooooo…..there ya have it. Sorry for the not so good news but ya can`t do much with Mother Nature not cooperating. I`ll get back on here in a couple days to let ya`ll know how the trails look once the sun and 40 degree temps do their damage.

Groomer Chris

EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via Mackinac County Snowmobile Association >> Tuesday December 30
We really got the snow yeaterday. Cut river area seemed to be the winner with claims to 36 inches. St ignace received a foot or more and Trout lake closer to 2ft. With all that snow comes the fun stuff. We did pan what we could last night but had to turn around and could not make it into St ignace do to down trees. We will need a few days to get this storm cleaned up. It is passable to St Ignace by sled but ungroomed until clean up is done. So much snow came at once it will take several passes to get a good hard base again so please be patient with us for a few days while we get things in order. Use extreme caution while riding in our area as there still is branches in the trail. We will update as soon as conditions change. Thank you #soo #straitsarea #newberry #snowphotos

TROUT LAKE AREA UPDATE via The Rail House-Trout Lake MI >> Attempt #2... we made the entire loop around the lake. Use caution as there is a downed tree on the backside of the lake. We did not have a chainsaw and were unable to move it on our own. Visibility is better and there are a lot of sleds out. The snow is DEEP. If I had to guess I would say we got 20"+ of snow. Be safe. Be prepared and do not ride alone.
Buckhorn, Trout Lake is open and so is the gas station
Special thanks to RAD Rentals! Our family from Florida is enjoying the snow and their lessons in being a Yooper. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County Sorva – 3/7

TRAIL REPORT, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 6:15 a.m.

GREAT LATE SEASON RIDING!

A light, wet snowfall yesterday with trails grooming out nicely and in an overall good to very good condition. Some icy inside corners may develop throughout the day near Christmas and in the hills of Trail 419 closer to Munising. North end of Trail 7 also has icy corners. Trail 418 has some wet/icy areas East of Au Train and gravely areas near and West of Au Train. Bare roads and dirty snow near towns. Keep a close eye on trail conditions as you ride and stay right. Stay tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 03/06

Warm weather is making it hard to find snow to groom. They guys have been focused on making everything flat so we can work with fresh snow as we get it. Sounds like snow is working its way through right now. We are monitoring conditions and will groom as necessary to save what we have left. 2 accidents on our trail this weekend in less than 24 hours highlights the fact that some people are still not following basic snowmobiling rules like ride right and be aware of your surroundings. We don’t want to see accidents. We want everyone to go home the same way they came here. It takes everyone being safe to have a safe ride. Ride right and ride safe!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We are all cleaning out after all of this snow. Sounds like great snow coverage from end to end. That’s the good part! The bad part is we have so many wind prone areas with heavy drifting, that we need to let it settle for a day and get some sleds over it before we send out the groomer. It is the downfall of being a one groomer club. We don’t have the availability of running tandem to quickly recover from a storm like this. But…. This is the perfect time for all of the β€œadventurous” riders to break trail in GREAT SNOW!!! Just beware of fallen trees. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA >> Well, we got snow. All day yesterday it rained. Transition to snow was last night 8pm.
We are working on getting out of our homes to get to the groomers. 50 to 60 mph winds all night and still blowing hard. Power has been out. If you are brave enough to go out in this wind, bring your chainsaws! It is going to be a solid day of clearing trees for us. The roads are currently blocked by trees and power lines. The picture shows my driveway that i plowed at 5am. Plowing in progress. We are doing all we can. Helping with tree removal would be very much appreciated.
