St. Ignace Trail Report – 01/20

COLD is again upon us. Darn cold for sure, single digits all upcoming week, with a slight warm-up into the mid-teens this weekend. Some snow will bring a few inches of accumulation over this time period – it is really doesn’t matter as the trails have tons of snow on them and are in really good shape. Best shape in years as a matter of fact, and they are holding up better then I thought they would considering we are missing some grooming time as we are down to one tractor. Trout Lake saw some the biggest crowds in 2 years up there this weekend, and the flow of sleds to Mackinac Island was pretty steady all weekend.

A huge thank you goes out to my groomer drivers as they are doing a great job scheduling things in and double-shifting the tractor when we need to. We are generally getting 2 complete grooms done every 3 days or so, which is going well during the week, and just getting us by on the weekend. You may occasionally find a section of rougher then normal trail until we get our other machine back. #5 may be back on Friday, but I and thinking it will be monday or tuesday after they get a chance to run it a bit and put the tractor on the dyno.

Trails are really in good to fantastic shape. Between 10-14′ base out there with lots to play in off trail. We really don’t need more snow for a while and are able to work with what we have. There are no major trail hazards to report out there. The treeline to Mackinac Island is up and being used – proceed with caution. Logging with plowed roads in the core of our system, and also the Cedarville connector. Plowed sections should be open and passable.

All in all things are great around here. Plows worked the whole weekend to get the pond hockey rink are cleared out, and rinks should go in around next weekend. We may have a vintage snowmobile race coming to our area Feb 22 – more details on that when I have them.
