Munising Area Trail Report – 03/04

TRAIL REPORT March 4, 2022

Great Trails with Help Again!

Thanks to help from (3) of our neighboring Clubs Trails in an overall very good condition with our Bully being down again. (Trenary Northern Trails, Schoolcraft County Motorized Trails Association and Big Bay De Noc Snowmobile Club). We will continue to do what we can with the Programs Spare Bully, our club owned John Deere 7130 and help from our neighbors. Hopefully parts arrive for the Bully today and we get a surprise delivery of the Big Deere, still awaiting a return delivery date. Lets hope this weekends warm weather forecast switches to snow instead of heavy rain. Temperatures may affect groom-ability so we will be watching closely to determine a hold or not. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 3/4

With our trails holding up in great shape and Alger SORVA having more issues with their Bully, Steve made a run with our groomer to help our neighbors with a double loop run around 417, 418, 7, and 8 on their west end. Trail set up hard with decent snow and came out relatively flat with a little work. We are glad we could help out as much as we could this year as machine downs have been an issue not only with Alger SORVA, but with multiple clubs across the UP. Clubs have stepped up to help other clubs and it makes all the difference. Ride right and ride safe!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Extremely cold temperatures and wind chills continue today into Saturday morning while lake effect snow continues over the NW wind snowbelts. Frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes on exposed skin in this weather. FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 3/3

Good Morning from Lake Margrethe, its about 11 degrees out this morning. Here we are 3 days into March in whats left of the most dismal sled season in the 25 plus years that Sledheads of Frederic has been open. The U.P. was certainly the place to be riding this season and I believe it still is. The snow conditions around Frederic havent changed much since this past weekend. Still nice and white out there but icy underneath. The forcast for the next few days isnt anything that sounds positive either. There have been a few sleds out and about this week including the group of 4 guys that stopped in yesterday and they were going to try to ride up to the bridge. I told them to let me know if they made it. I do think it was possible thing to do yesterday. Barring a giant storm which of course is possible that there wont be much more riding around here this season. Pic below is the four guys before heading to the bridge and they had rode from 4 mile road to Frederic. On tuesday I saw the Roscommon Groomer making snow dust and grooming on the trail along I 75 from the Ramada to 4 mile road so that was a good site. Also one thing I found interesting on my trip to NYC a couple weeks ago is that most of the food delivery guys in NYC that deliver on their bicycles have gauntlets on their bikes. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frosty and crunchy at 4 degrees on friday morning in Frederic, I saw the groomer heading out on 47 trail by the high school and 2 sleds right at that corner too. Already been several sleds in this morning and I made an early trip to the Sled Shed to get me some carbides for my ski doo. Those carbides have been on back order all season and I got the last set of 6 inch from Sled Shed. I wanted to make sure I get to ride again. I am happy to say that several riders told me that all trails they were on were well groomed. That is good to hear. The OSSA group were in here yesterday afternoon and they are staying up in Gaylord this year and at least we have great snow this year. Thanks Gary Hines for stopping in with everyone. Already sold the 4 pair of Gauntlets that I had this morning. My frederic-mi.com site is messed up again and Rebecca is on that. I was bummed to see the guys that were winter camping in my back lot left last night. I thought they were staying thru the weekend. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord #snowphotos ... Wind chills in the 20s below zero; some areas could feel as cold as -30F. This will be dangerous, as frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Keep a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded.

Had loader here again today, sleds downtown grayling at the restaurant, winter campers in back yard of sledheads, yummy burger at vienna loader really stacked it up this time. hope to get my other page going again, dont know wha the deal is, lots of wind and white outs today, supposed to get colder tommorow.
