Overall Trails are in Good condition. With some fresh snowfall the trails were setting good passing the boot test with grooming last night. The Deere did go down yesterday North of Shingleton with a structural drive failure on the track system. The team limped it home using a car hood under the damaged track system. It’s in the barn for repair and will hopefully be back out soon. We still have hazardous water holes on Trail 418 so ride and cross with extreme caution (Map in images showing locations). Signs now mark both locations. Keep a close eye on conditions as you ride and stay right. Stay tuned for updates!

A clipper will bring a mixture of synoptic snow and lake effect snow for the entirety of Michigan. This is the first of multiple clippers between now and Monday. Lake effect areas may see totals into the 4-8" zone, with localized heavier totals possible along the Porcupine Mountains in the western UP. We DO have ample moisture on our atmospheric profiles for tomorrow, but the forcing is still suspect, so a solid blanket of 1-4" of snow, with isolated higher totals close to half a foot should occur by the end of our day Friday. The greatest chance at an area underachieving is in... guess what... southeast Michigan. Monroe and Lenawee counties specifically were in the T-1" zone at first call, but with a more-moist profile expected tomorrow, all locations (in an ideal world) should at least hit 1". We are also watching for the development of freezing drizzle mixing in, primarily in the Lower Peninsula as low-level temperatures favor this phenomena. Now, drizzle would hinder totals, but significantly increase travel issues as roads get coated with both the drizzle and the wet snow. We will have a freezing drizzle accumulation map out tomorrow morning.
Winds gusting 25-35 mph at times, primarily out of the west. Some snow squalls will mix in, which for those who don't remember, snow squalls exist to only cause headaches. These narrow bands of snow drop visibility from open skies to mere feet in the matter of seconds, which is never good, especially on fast-moving roadways. A snow squall can put down as much as a quick inch in 15-30 minutes at their peak intensity. Both morning and evening commutes will be impacted by snow or drizzle. Let's hope we don't light up the MDOT drive map with 25 accidents this time around, so please take your time. Give yourself that extra hour to travel, especially in instances of forced slow downs.

Someone told me that the bridge on the trail that crosses the autrain river in autrain/M28 has been removed. Is that true? If so, is there an alternative crossing in that location? I'm aware of the trail on the south end of Autrain Lake, but checking on the north side near Autrain itself. Thank you very much
We received about 5 inches of fresh snow last week, which left a nice cover over the trails. All trails have been groomed at this point and are in fair condition. Thank you to our groomers for doing their best with the snow we have! The extended forecast shows a possibility for snow showers throughout the week. Looking ahead, there are a few winter storms heading into Michigan this month. Keep your fingers crossed that they find their way to Gaylord!

It’s friday morning and still quiet out there, about 25 degrees and no new snow since yesterday, thankfully what we do have is holding and the weather forcast thru next thursday shows a little new snow each day. I would rather see it say alot of new snow each day but we have to take what we can get. I finally got my first ride in yesterday, only a ten mile ride and I would rate it as o.k. I was on and off trail 7 towards graying and on two tracks in there. In the untouched spots there was 5 to 6 inches of snow. The regular trail was at least white and looked decent but alot of traffic would wear it out unless the cold helps keep it there. Pics below were of my sled when I pulled back into my shop. I looked at it and thought wow there is actually snow in my track, I should have took a couple pics when I was out in the woods. As I was leaving frederic last night I saw 4 sleds riding into the Swamp. If you ride at night at least the trails always look better than in the daytime. Now I am just left wondering if anyone will show up today or tommorow. I have heard from several people that really want to come to the frederic area to ride as they are not up for the 2 hour longer ride to the u.p. The riders or would be riders want to ride…….Thanks for checking in. Pete

We had about an inch and a half of lake effect overnight. It makes it nice and white but we could use a good stiff system snow to help us out. Its still very icy underneath and I have cones out around the front of my buildng cause its so slick out there. I need a huge amount of salt from the Detroit salt mines to cut down on the slippery stuff.

Winds chills will be in the teens below zero or colder in parts of eastern upper and north central Lower Michigan. Be sure to bundle up! The good part about that is more room for sled trailer storage. I was surprised to see a little bit of white outside this morning when I got up. We had an awful lot of rain yesterday and it was looking pretty bad out there late yesterday afternoon. Its now about 2 on Wednesday. The good part for this coming weekend is that temps are going to go down to the teens or below the next few days.
