Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/14
GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Swamp II Bar & Restaurant in Frederic MI >> 01/14 Wednesday Jan. 14th. Snow on and off today and reported everyday this week/weekend! <> <> Gaylord Bureau – January 12, 2026 11:30 a.m. We had a warm up last week, followed by some fresh powder over the weekend. All trails have been groomed, but last week’s weather has left them in fair to good condition. You’ll find some areas that are very low on snow at this time and also may encounter wet spots. The groomers were able to flatten everything down, but expect to find overall icy conditions until we receive more snow. Grooming is halted until we have some fresh snow. Be safe out there and have fun! Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in several locations. The newest locations are around Van Tyle and North Townline Road (Gaylord) and the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake. Logging is also taking place on trail #4 along the powerline that crosses Evergreen Drive and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to smooth the trails out in these areas. The good part about that is more room for sled trailer storage. I was surprised to see a little bit of white outside this morning when I got up. We had an awful lot of rain yesterday and it was looking pretty bad out there late yesterday afternoon. Its now about 2 on Wednesday. The good part for this coming weekend is that temps are going to go down to the teens or below the next few days. While it is slick and icy underneath we should keep snow we have and light amounts are predicted for each day this week. So it should make it rideable for this weekend. There is still alot of snow in the woods. I doubt if it will be great riding but we have to deal with what we get and it will be better than the past few days. Pics below are from this morning. Also I have a set of sled wheels new in the box that belong to a friend and he never opened the box before he sold his sled. $250, they were $350 originally. Lets hope for a surprise blast. Snow totals will be the highest yet again into the Keweenaw Peninsula. It's almost a carbon copy of today. Ice totals, however, are primarily a concern for the Upper Peninsula. Still alot to melt off here in Frederic, Piles were huge and so very rock hard its still gonna take them a while to melt down. The good thing about all the snow was that it spread the riders out all thru the state which made for a much safer season. Even with that there were still 12 deaths with only 4 in the lower and the rest in the u.p.
