Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/03
Gaylord Bureau – January 3, 2025 9:00 p.m. We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 90 inches of snow to start out winter! We’re under a winter weather advisory and could potentially see 12″ of snow over the next 24 hours. Trails are being groomed today and are in fair shape. Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord. A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Want to be ready? Its 10 a.m. and we had another few inches of light feathery lake effect snow. Things are nice and white out there but I dont like the sun. We need a good system snow. There were a few sleds out and about yesterday but with no base I feel like we need alot more snow. We have to start somewhere. Temps are suppposed to get colder next week. People tell me I am to negative on my reports sometimes but I look at it like would I ride my sled in it. With this feathery light weight snow its pretty much worn out after the first couple sleds go by and you are right thru to the gravel. But you have to take what we have and its not much. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Winter is back and now its so windy and blowing out it would be difficult to ride your sled. Snow is about 4 inches so far and its a wet and heavy snow, tough to plow and hard to ride in. We just cant win on this. Winter storm warning till 1 tuesday morning. Heavy snow and strong winds gusting to 45-55+ mph are expected to create localized blizzard conditions across open areas at times from mid-morning into early afternoon. Drifting snow may make travel especially difficult on secondary roadways. Power outages will also be possible, especially across areas that experienced icing on Sunday. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night.
