Ironwood Trail Report – 12/30

IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club – 12/30

If travelling from Wakefield to Marenisco DO NOT take trail 8. Go to Marenisco and go north via the west shore. Riding the side of the highway will get you a ticket. #ridesafe

Trail 160 is closed due to water sections. Trail 2 1mi east of the transfer station “horseshoe bend”/Siemens Creek Bridge is a long plowed out section of trail. There was a water hole that was dug out, it is gravel bottom and 1-2” of slush when we left it. It is heavily signed please ride cautiously!! More details to come, Thank you Devin Greil for coming out to assist riders and warm them up in your Ranger Northstar! Be safe, it’s dumping snow on and off!
Edit:
Trail 160 is mostly rideable except for the water sections. We need to time to let it soak down.
Trail 2 water hole is đź’Ż navigable, the color is red gravel bottom.

The snow is just starting here in the far western most region of Michigan. The totals continue to change, and they are only heading one way….UP. We will be scouting trails this evening and tomorrow by sled. We will start grooming once snow winds down some tomorrow. Be sure to tip your wait staff and STAY ON THE TRAIL. Stay on trail signs are used in specific areas to remind us the temptation isn’t worth the risk

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 12/30

Just rode 17 to 3 from Hancock to Phoenix. Just a few slushy spots other than that good snow cover. There are two pretty big tree obstacles across trail three south of Phoenix. You are able to go around one of them and under the other, but would be a hazard if you came upon them at a fast speed.

I have not personally been on 124 but was just told that that does have wet areas on it.

UPDATE:
Just rode 3 to 130 into Eagle Harbor to checkout the lake and lighthouse. The lake is angry! The Eagles Loop is definitely the best kept secret of the day for riding…. no whoops at all, plenty of snow cover, minor slush but amazing. Then took 3 up to Copper Harbor, over the mountain, definitely some whoops to deal with from the junction of 3/134 up to Brockway Mtn Rd/trail. Like a blizzard so no view from the overlook!

Ride with caution!

Keep those snow dances going cause they are producing!!

Snowmobile trails are in poor to fair condition throughout the Keweenaw due to prolonged warm temperatures. Watch for water on the trails. Trails should freeze up this evening and groomers are expected to resume trail grooming Tuesday morning. Trails 3 and 17 and trails south of Atlantic Mine are in the best condition.

Valley Sno Drifters trail from Lake Linden to Dreamland Restaurant & Bar is OPEN!
The Portage Lift Bridge is open to snowmobile traffic.
A reroute on Trail 133 around the Gay stamp sands is now open.
The “Mandan Trail” portion of Trail 134 is open.
Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and the Freda Trail (south of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge) will be closed the entire season for repair.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away.

Please stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for rider’s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.
