ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> 02/27
THURSDAY NIGHT 2/27/2025
GROOMING UPDATE
President Mac and Groomer Operator Wyatt are headed out later this evening in our Lulich Implement, Inc. New Holland tractor and our 2022 PistenBully. We continue to have fuel trouble codes over-the-phone support couldn’t eradicate in PB19, so only two groomers out tonight. Groomer’s will be inspecting the trails for hazards, knocking down moguls and starting the painful task of setting trails back in. Please be patient with the area trail’s as our groomer runs take remarkably longer after a 5 night hiatus from regular grooming maintenance.
We are grooming “the loop” out of Ontonagon and the ROADS of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park – the Porkies. Due to water along trail 1 from White Pine to Silver city, we cannot get our tractor in there to groom. We are also skipping short sections along the lake due to marshes filling back up destabilizing the trail base for the big tractor. We just can’t risk getting stuck! All of this is a plan and subject to change due to mechanical issues or changes in trail conditions, which we will relay.
Forecasts are calling for 1-12″ of fresh snow. Having our second night of grooming back in action tomorrow night, Friday, SATURDAY RIDING SHOULD BE SOMETHING SPECIAL!
Thank you to all the volunteers across the UP making this snowmo-tourism machine work!

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott’s Superior Inn and Cabins >> 02/26
Snowmobile Trail Report – Ontonagon Area
I took a 50-mile loop today, riding Trail 137 out of Ontonagon to Rockland, Trail 13 from Rockland to Greenland, and Trail 12 back to Ontonagon. Despite the recent warm-up, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall good to excellent conditions.
Trail 13 was freshly groomed in some sections, making for a smooth and enjoyable ride. There were a few short areas with exposed ground and wet/slushy spots, but nothing major. Trail 12 from Greenland was the roughest section, mainly because a groomer hadn’t been through in several days, so it was on the bumpier side. I also encountered a few short stretches of snirt, but again, nothing that significantly impacted the ride.
The good news is that a couple of inches of fresh snow are expected before the weekend, and colder temps are returning, which will help firm things up. Once groomers are back in full operation, conditions should improve even more.
It’s not quite as perfect as before the warm-up, which had some of the best riding I’ve seen in years, but we still have plenty of snow and great riding conditions in the western U.P. Don’t let the recent warm stretch scare you off—there’s still lots of fun to be had!
LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update for 12-16-25. Temp's got into the upper 30's today. It shouldn't impact trails, however we will be keeping machines parked this evening. Pictures are of Trail 13 North of M28 to Rockland and 13 south of the Root Cellar to our turnaround. 13 North of the Root Cellar is still being worked on and we'll hopefully be able to open that up by the end of the week. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Hats off to Steve from Hamilton's North Coast Adventures for his hard work and dedication. He ran WITH the drag to groom what we could yesterday. TRAIL REPORT: Trail 1 was groomed from LP Walsh Road to Silver City and back with some wet spots North of White Pine. A rider ran up to Lake of the Clouds and advised us that there is a large tree on the trail just past the split to Trail 11 (South Boundary Road). Snow is thin thru the woods in The Porkies, but the wet spots have frozen up nicely. Thanks for the detailed info, Nick! Trail 12 was groomed between White Pine and the split to Trail 101. There are some wet spots along the LP Walsh Road, ride with caution. The trail is not groomed or cleared of hazards beyond that split going East to the NCSC Clubhouse. Trail 101 is in great shape! Trail 13 from the 101 junction to Rockland is cleared thru and groomed, but narrow in spots, ride with caution. Trail12/137 (The railroad grade) between Rockland and Ontonagon is in good shape, but Trail 12 going East to Greenland has not yet been cleared. If you are running Groomer Tracker please keep in mind that some of the groomers are still running with no drags, clearing trail and or rolling and compacting. Please check with individual clubs to get the full scoop B4 you ride. #ontonagon #westernup#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> UPDATED 12/16/25- We had a groomer go out on our north/ south run giving mixed reviews. The grade going east out of town is thin in spots and needs snow and the area of trail 3 going north from the grade is still a little ruff and needs more snow to fill in the holes so it can start to flatten out. He reported down to Lando to be nice and when you start getting farther north on trail 3 it gets better. Due to the warm up today (Tuesday) we are waiting to send groomer west until Wednesday. We are not on a full grooming schedule yet but trails are starting to shape up good but we could definitely use some new snow. Again because of the storm and early season watch out for small debris in the trails, help us out if you see something please stop and get it off the trail as it will be safer for everyone. As always please ride to the right and ride safe. #westernup... See MoreSee Less

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Your Sunday evening 12-14-25 Groomer's report from the Bergland Area. We received around 8"to 10" over the past 2 days from the latest storm. The snow and cold have been helping out tremendously!! I was waiting to hear from one of our operators out currently who had just groomed 8w to see if thing's had improved but he hasn't replied. However 8w and 1n are currently being groomed. Today we finally punched through 102. We'll let 102 set up for a day or 2 and run through her again without a drag. Then 13 from Root Cellar north is the last section to open up along with access trail's. 🤞Mother Nature cooperates! We are moving forward and some sections are beautiful and other's just need time. Thanks everyone! Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic#westernup#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> 02/27
Well, not much good to report at the moment. Trail isn’t looking the greatest. We went out last night to see what we could do, if anything. The east end from Chatham to 417 is still pretty good. We didn’t go past Rumely because of hidden water holes that I kept sinking into, and we don’t want to make it any worse than it already is. We would rather leave it alone and save the base. We will try again on Friday and Saturday night when things cool off more. There are lots of bare spots, so carbides will take a hit, but as far as Rumely to 417 is rideable. We will post again when we know more. Ride right, lead right, have fun, and be safe out there.
