MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 01/13

TRAIL REPORT – Wednesday, 1-13-2021 WANTED! – SNOW
Overall Trails across our system remain Poor with dirty snow and rocky patches. We wish we had better news after 2 1/2 weeks of no snowfall but as of now we are still in a long waiting game. On the good side the ground is staying frozen so when we do get snow none will be lost. Forecast is calling for rain/snow Friday followed by snow Saturday and Sunday but only a few inches. Who knows, maybe we will get lucky and it changes to measurable amounts. For now Grooming Operations will remain on hold until we see a substantial amount of snowfall. While we wait the crew has continued doing upgrades on the club owned equipment and work around the shop. Please hope for the best, continue the snow dances and Stay Tuned for updates!

Travel impacts abate tonight with lake effect snow becoming light into Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, a shot of widespread snow will be followed by strong winds and lake effect. The snow in this period will change to the kind that blows around really easily. Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/11

Wind is picking up here in Frederic with a stiff south breeze but it feels nice and cold., Still not a speck of new snow. I figured yesterdays post would get people riled up and it did with all the comments and after you read this it will really blister your feathers. I had a pretty lengthy conversation this morning with Karen from the former Michigan Snowmobile Association and now known as MISORVA (Michigan Snowmobile and ORV Association). She said things changed back in 2016 with the passing of public act 288. Here is a link to it. Public Act 288 of 2016

I still haven’t read all of it yet but will yet this afternoon. Doesn’t seem like a very good deal for sledders to me. I will leave it at that for right now.

New snowfall of 4-8” with locally higher amounts are possible by Monday night/Tuesday morning. Wind gusts of 30-45+ mph are expected Monday morning and afternoon. Wind chills will drop well below zero through Tuesday as well. Combination of heavy snow, winds, and cold will create widespread hazardous travel conditions across northern Michigan with whiteouts possible at times, especially across open areas. JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Hats off to Mike, Rich and Pete for spending two cold days fixing a minor issue found on the track of the Pisten Bully! These guys have been on the recovery and fix of the blown track and this latest fix this year and we couldn’t do it without them! Hopefully our machine issues are behind us for the year!
Our Milwaukee Tool are a key part of program. From our impacts, grease guns and chainsaws in the cab of our units, these tools make our volunteers lives easier! Hopefully next year we’ll have a building in Alba to get out of the weather. Go check out the go fund me or visit the Antrim County Snowmobile Club and help us make this happen! gofund.me/a9c1cde53
Our groomers were out all weekend making up for the down machine. Thank you to our volunteers for adjusting their schedules! Trails have come back around since we’ve received some fresh snow to mix in with the crusty snow left from the meld down. Looks like we may receive another foot by next weekend which will help build back up the trail. This week will be frigid so we will adjust grooming as needed for snowfall and temps. Make sure you check out Groomer Tracker for all our grooming!
